If an item was put in the mail on saturday is there any chance of it getting to me in the same state by tommorow?

I used to deliver bulk mail to post offices and the only 2 days that we didn't deliver was Christmas and thanksgiving. I delivered 7 days a week, just because the mail isn't being delivered to your house don't assume the mail isn't moving.

Long Distance mail will move, for example, mail in the airmail system might, in long distance contracted trucks or on trains keeps moving.  It's when a person has to handle it and that person isn't there that it stops.

So in-state mail probably won't, long distance might.

Might be moving, but it isn't getting delivered till Wednesday at the earliest.

(Tuesday has been declared a one-time Federal "Holiday" due to Gerry dying.)

Doesn't mean that anything other than overnight gets put in the little white jeeps and gets delivered today.  It might be moving but won't get put in your mailbox till tomorrow.

Yeah I used to work at the GMF in Denver.  The mail moves around all year but the end stations are closed for all the big holidays and special things like today.

You'll likely get whatever it is tomorrow as there wont be any mail delivery today because of Ford.

gets sorted, doesn't get delivered.

I worked in a mailroom during my freshman year in college (10+ years ago) so things may have changed.

Yes it moves but will not be delivered. I am a 17 year USPS employee and I can tell you the mail moves 24/7 even on holidays but actual delivery is only mon-sat except for holidays. Certain types of mail can be delivered on those days when normal delivery does not go out.

Tomorrow is going to suck for carriers.  I was a back up rural carrier for a while.  The mail piles up while not being delivered.

Around here, mail just flies.  I'm not kidding.  I have to congratulate anyone working for the USPS.  The delivery speed and cost (for packages) is just damn astounding.  In a good way.
