I would think buying one as a symbolic SCREW YOU to the antis banning ARs has more to do with it than buying one for comfort.

An elderly black gentleman at the range was trying to run his and wasn't sure how to separate the upper and lower to look inside as it was the first gun he ever bought, so I helped him out. He offered to let me shoot his, so I shot a few rounds. Then I let him shoot my semi non-neutered. He was surprised at the difference and I explained how the action soaks up some recoil. Not the best system, but the more the merrier .

I have a PTR 91 and a AR in my moms safe in CA. The flash hiders are removed and Im running grip wrap on them, but since theyre featureless, I was able to get rid of the silly bullet buttons.

Never seen any dildo/thordsens on the shelf here, only Troy and Ares. A bunch of shops here won't sell either despite being kosher. Some still won't transfer prebans despite 80% of shops doing it. Only one shop (Freedom Shoppe) will transfer normal ARs but in the AIDS configuration (no stock, barrel 12+ inches).

Please tell me that NYorkers were not bringing neutered NY rifles to the Stone Mountain Mountain MG Shoot.
Link Posted: 6/20/2017 7:55:07 PM EDT
If by neutered you're referring to the inability to shoot in full auto, then yes I do.

However I can swap stocks and pistol grips and muzzle devices almost at will

Featureless rifles typically are.  Not just uncomfortable, but unwieldy.  Most that I've seen are not suitable for serious or social uses.  Bullet-button or more permanently fixed-mag rifles also have their practicality issues, although there are some interesting work-arounds.

Generally, something like the Ares SCR, if you can even find one, is the better option.  Featureless but not uncomfortable or unwieldy.  Side-charging upper is a good idea with those, though.

I'm trying to figure out what to do with my FAL that is my go-to rifle.  There are a lot fewer options than for ARs.  There is currently no option for fixing the mag according to the new standards that does not involve pinning, riveting, or welding, all of which have an irreversible impact on major components.  Featureless is impractical, and there are no ways to try to make it at least a little palatable due to  the differences in the design compared to the AR-15.  The trigger is too far forward.  I'm not registering it as an AW, either.  The only other option is keeping it disassembled or disabling semi-auto function.

I own a ban era 20" A2 w/o muzzle attachment.  That's the closest I've got. Ironically,  it's my favorite range gun. When I shoot the barrel out I'll replace it with one with a brake

What's the deal with the retread thread topics?

This thread was already done a couple weeks ago.

As was the Apple Cider Vinegar thread.

If you own the no pistol grip abomination AND the bolt or pump action upper model, you can change your mind about compliance in about 60 seconds.

Dear Lord.

I bought an off list lower when I still lived in CA, when it first became a thing.  I think the prospect of building it into that kind of nonsense is what finally pushed me over the edge to GTFO.  The only neutering on my ARs is that they aren't FA.
Link Posted: 6/20/2017 8:10:13 PM EDT
I am going to ask for about the 50th time.

Why does nobody import these or license this design for manufacture/sale in NY/CA etc. If I had the wherewithal to get into the gun business I would do it.

Shops here have them n say they dont sell.

Fixed mag option seems more popular

Not surprised they don't sell they look like an abomination

I'd rather just have a Fudd gun

Or a non-AR.  Mini-14, BM-59, M-14, Mini-30, sporter AKs, SAFN-49, SKS, etc.  Garand as well.  Mini-G with a pistol-gripped stock would be interesting.

It kind of makes me sad how people have to work around clearly unconstitutional gun restrictions in the first place

Even those of us in free states have to deal with NFA. I dream of a day when machine guns, suppressors, SBRs can just be bought like a regular firearm with an instant background check.
Link Posted: 6/20/2017 8:20:16 PM EDT
I've never even seen one in person, but I doubt they sell them in Arizona and I can't imagine anyone from California bringing one here and leaving it in it's crippled state.

Maybe not entirely pointless...

I got mine in 300 blackout knowing when I moved back home it would be sweet with a suppressor. Sadly I'm still waiting on the ATF

Agree that it's kind of awkward to shoot in certain positions though. Standing up its pretty damn fun.
