12. [GilChem2003 3.P.034.] The light from a particular star is redshifted by 23.9% and includes

the Balmer series of H emission lines. Calculate the wavelength for the line arising from the

transition from n = 3 to n = 2 as viewed from Earth.

Thanks.

lambda(n,k) = (limit) * n^2 / n^2 - k^2

For the Balmer series, k=2 with a limit of
365.4nm.

I would think that you would need to adjust
the limit (which corrisponds to the lower
limit of the optical spectum of Hydrogen)
to account for the red shift and rerun the
numbers for the given values of n.

I was wrong (kinda). For the 3-2
transition, the wavelength is 6563
angstroms, so shift that to the
red by 23.9% and I think that is
the answer.

Hello,

Wow what an odd question to find here on this type of forum. Anyhow I will help get you started. The Johann Balmer series (i.e. H alpha, H beta, H gamma, H delta, and etc.) was founded by Balmer in 1885 where he found that the plot of the frequencies of the hydrogen emission lines is linear as a function of 1/n squared.

More to the point, in the case of the N3 to N2 electronic transition you will need to specifically employ the use of another dude’s equation by the name of Johannes Rydberg where this will yield the longest wavelength of 656 nm. Now the fun part Redshift that beeoich by 23.9%

Tgrds

Don't worry about getting good grades in school, always remeber this:

- No matter how hard you try... some fucking Towel Head will get a higher grade

- No matter what major you choose... that job will be outsourced in 5 years

- No matter how qualified you are... some minority will get your job

- No matter how good you think you are at "pulling out".. the girl is going to get pregnant and you will end
up with four kids, a fat wife, three dogs and a paraket all living in a 20 ft. steamlined trailer.

So, you see, in the long run... phase shifts of stars and the calculable wavelength of certain star emissions are all irrelevant. Oh, by the way... the answer is "UMM BOP... WOW CHU WOW DOO WOP.. BLEEWB BOW DOW EWW WOW WOOOOO"

LOL... Sorry, I'm tired.

I think I have a question you may not be able to answer:

What is the "Measure of a Man" - By Clay Aiken?

Also... Who puts the fuzzy lint in my belly-button when I'm not looking?

Furthermore... I can't feel my legs...? And, no.. I'm not sitting on them...

Note: Actually can feel my legs... thanks for caring though.

#1 a song by Clay...

If one day you discover him
Broken down he's lost everything
No cars, no fancy clothes to make him who he's not
The woman at his side is all that he has got
Why do you ask him move to heaven and earth
To prove his love has worth?

Would he walk on water
Would he run through fire
Would he stand before you
When it is down to the wire
Would he gave his life up
To be all he can
Is that, is that, is that how you measure a man?

If by chance all he had to give you
Was three words wrapped around his finger
Would that be deep enough at the end of every day
And how will you ever know
If a man is what he says?

Why do you ask him to move heaven and earth
To prove his love has worth
Would he walk on water
Would he run through fire
Would he stand before you
When its down to the wire
Would he give his life up to be all he can
Is that, is that, is that how you measure a man?

He never gives up
Lets go of his dreams
His world goes around for his one true belief
Is that how you know
Is that what it means?

Would he walk on water
Would he run through fire
Would he stand before you
Would he will be your anchor when the dark unfolds
Would he always love you the best that he knows?

Would he give his life up
To be all that he can
Is that, is that, is that how you measure a man?

Would he walk on water
Would he run through fire
Would he stand before you
When it is down to the wire
Would he gave his life up
To be all he can

Is that, is that, is that, how you measure oh...

Is that, is that, is that, how your measure a man?

Also.. I know what Jane says and I would tell you... BUT... aww.. shucks.. I'll tell ya:

Jane says
I'm done with Sergio
He treats me like a ragdoll
She hides
The television
Says I don't owe him nothing,
But if he comes back again
Tell him to wait right here for me
Or just
Try again tomorrow
I'm gonna kick tomorrow
Gonna kick tomorrow

Jane says
Have you seen my wig around?
I feel naked without it
She knows
They all want her to go
But thats O.K.
She dont like them anyway
Jane says
She's goin away to spain
When she gets my money saved
She's gonna start tomorrow
I'm gonna kick tomorrow
Gonna kick tomorrow

She gets mad
Starts to cry
She takes a swing but
She cant hit
She don't mean no harm
She just don't know
What else to do about it

Jane goes
To the store at 8:00
She walk up on St. Andrews
She waits
And gets her dinner there
She pulls her dinner
From her pocket
Jane says
She's never been in love
No, she don't know what it is
Only knows if someone wants her
I want them if they want me
I only know they want me

She gets mad
And she starts to cry
She takes a swing man
She cant hit!
She don't mean no harm
She just dont know
What else to do about it

Jane says
