lambda(n,k) = (limit) * n^2 / n^2 - k^2 For the Balmer series, k=2 with a limit of 365.4nm. I would think that you would need to adjust the limit (which corrisponds to the lower limit of the optical spectum of Hydrogen) to account for the red shift and rerun the numbers for the given values of n. |

I was wrong (kinda). For the 3-2 transition, the wavelength is 6563 angstroms, so shift that to the red by 23.9% and I think that is the answer. |

Wow what an odd question to find here on this type of forum. Anyhow I will help get you started. The Johann Balmer series (i.e. H alpha, H beta, H gamma, H delta, and etc.) was founded by Balmer in 1885 where he found that the plot of the frequencies of the hydrogen emission lines is linear as a function of 1/n squared. More to the point, in the case of the N3 to N2 electronic transition you will need to specifically employ the use of another dude’s equation by the name of Johannes Rydberg where this will yield the longest wavelength of 656 nm.
