So between my wife and I we spend Nearly $300/month on cellphones between Verizon & ATT.

These Metro PCS plans seem like a very good deal but I KNOW there's gotta be a catch with regards to service quality or coverage areas.  I just want to know how bad is it.  Does anyone have it and wish they hadn't gotten it?

Their plans are basically between $40 and $60 / month unlimited everything.

Uses CDMA technology, same as verizon. Last I heard was that coverage was only good in major cities.....but that was about two years ago. Looks like they have some interesting phones too. Since it's no contract, why dont you buy a cheepie phone from them and compare with your current provider for a few weeks before committing?

There's a reason its only advertised in major cities.

In fact I remember in high school my friend learned that some rapper called it "Ghettro"

That being said, they are probably going to expand coverage as they approached our fire station to utilize our cell tower out back.

Thanks for the replies so far.  I'm hoping to hear from anyone who's actually used Metro PCS in recent times for long enough to have any issues (or not).  I know that when they first came around, people had a lot of issues with dropped calls and VERY limited coverage but it seems as though that has gotten a lot better.  They do have quite an impressive lineup of phones for such a budget carrier.

$300 bucks a month? I think you need to reexamine your phone needs.  YMMV.

We're 2 working professionals who use the phone more often than your average person and therefore we each require unlimited talk time.  I carry a Blackberry and my wife carry's 2 I-phones (thank goodness we only have to pay for one of hers).  Texting is essential for both of us, but unlimited data is just something I use more.  If we had to pay for all 3 phones, We'd be over $400.

That being said, we have a house line.  $40 gives us ALL the features.  Another $30 gives us DSL.  Total land line bill is over $100.  While I don't need ALL the features, I do need to be able easily, quickly, and conveniently send and receive faxes at any time.  And my experience has been in SOME minor SHTF scenarios (such as a few different hurricanes) that when the cell phone lines are jammed up due to mass hysteria that we were able to rely on the good ole land line to make calls, even when there was no power.

So in all, we're actually spending over $400 on communications which seems excessive - Hence, why I'm looking into Metro PCS.

My neighbor/friend has one.. he's always using my phone or his girlfriends because it seems like he has service maybe half of the time..

and we live in Los Angeles..   if we go a good distance outside of the city like to Big Bear it has no service at all
