Just ordered it today, and wondered if the ones that have it are satisfied?
Buy the way I got the lite version. Should I go with a higher version?

Bell south sucks royally. I had it for a few months it was slower than a 56k connection. They had to many subscribers in one area. It was taking hours to download one damn 8MB file. They do this all the time drop them.

I use them and have been for years. Very stable and unlike cable, the amount of users does not affect you. I worked for Comcast and still kept my DSL connection.

Its not as fast as cable (6mb) but I am running around 1340k at any given time day or night and I prefer the stability. Cable is nice but not in my area.

DSL lite is fine if you just surf the web. If you play online games or download big files, get the upgraded version.

Thats how it started out for me too. When it started to slow down I called Bell South to get someone out to fix it. I was told on two occasions that the reason my DSL service was slowing down was because too many people in my area had Bell South. When I asked what the hell does that mean they told me that Bell Souths coverage in South Florida and in the Wellington area in genral was way over capacity. I asked them when they were going to fix this they said in about a year or two

God forbid you need to contact their Help Desk. Other than that, they are pretty decent.

DSL here. I've had it for over 5 years. I've had one outage in all that time, and when I called them about it, they were already working on it.

My cable company is Adelphia, and they suck. My download speeds are fine for what we use it: surf, play games, e-mail, VPN to work. Works A-OK for me. I have the regular DSL, whatever they came out with first.

Just tested my speed:
2005-09-22 20:36:23 EST: 1252 / 245
Your download speed : 1282367 bps, or 1252 kbps.
A 156.5 KB/sec transfer rate.
Your upload speed : 251509 bps, or 245 kbps.

I have the fastest version at my office and it rocks.

It seems faster than the cable I have at the house.

But they are both so much faster than dial-up that any difference would be me being too picky.

The computer I used to test if it was my computer was brand new never used before. The repair rep stated that all customers in my area where having the same problem. I spoke to a few different managers over the phone who told me there was nothing they could do to fix it.

I dont know if they were lying to me or not but I raised a stink with four different people who basically told me the same thing.

Thanks for the replies. Other than Mediacom, Bell South is my only choice for high speed service. Does anyone use Bell Souths spy ware, firewall, and virus scan?

LOL I worked for the outsourcing company that handled Bellsouth calls in that area. I worked there for years, I was on the Comcast account, a few cubicles away from the Bellsouth account.

The person you spoke with does not actually work for Bellsouth and like most of the people there, they are as misinformed as a gun shop commando. What they told you sound like something a Comcatse rep wouold tell you. I am betting the guy got moved from the Comcast account when the company we worked for moved the Comcast account to Shrevport LA and the guy was moved to Bellsouth. He probably thinks they work the same. I probably know his face if I knew who he was.

The tech was an idiot who could not handle the call and made up crap. If you called that call center 10x you may get a real tech once. I worked in that call center.

+1

I've actually had it since it before it was publicly released and I've never had a problem with it.

DSL speed also depends on the REAL telephone wire distance
to Bellsouth's Central Office in your immediate vicinity.
3megabit download speed is limited to roughly 13,000 feet.
If you live farther than 13k you will have sync problems
and most likely won't get the max download speed available.
The DSL modem will sync to the next lowest available speed.
You will have reliability problems if you live farther than 13k feet.
I should know, that is what happened to me with Bellsouth DSL.
I live between 13k-14k feet from the CO and my lines aren't too good.
I had a hell of a time getting a reliable 3meg connection, so I had to
get the 1.5meg speed tier. Now I am fine with it.
Also there is NO SUCH THING as speed problems due to oversubscription
like cable has.
DSL has its own non shared line until it reaches the multiplexer.
That muxer can handle quite a few people.
DSL is usually much more resilient in storms.
When Katrina went over my house in Miami, DSL was running fine.
This was in 40mph wind, rain and lightning.
I think cable dies in strong winds.

+1. I have no clue there were different levels of service. All I know is that it's pretty dang gum fast.
