I just got around to exploring this rifle via some pretty obscure links on the web.  Everything is 'will be shipping' and 'supposed to be X Y and Z.'  I have yet to encounter any actual reviews.

I have seen all the promo pics, etc.

So,

1) Are they shpping?  (aramlite site said shipping in Apr 2001)
2) If you have one, what do you think?
3) Do they really go for under 600?

Thanks all,

Zaz

I ordered one in June. I was told they would deliver in Sept./Oct.. Who knows? The dealer price is $480.00 to Joe the average dealer. I imagine they probably have a lower price for their volume dealers. I will post when mine comes. I have order # 602. They claim they will ship in order that they were received. We'll see.

Armalite booth at Camp Perry had one on display. Didn't examine it real close but it looked pretty slick.

You got that right! Two weeks ago Eagle Arms posted on the Armalite board that shipping would start July 20!

They are coming and will be worth the wait.

Obscure links?????  www.armalite.com, click on AR180B on home page.  Doesn't sound obscure to me.  No actual reviews cause they aren't out there yet.  If they are anything like the originals, they will be great.  Given the quality of the original ArmaLite that has been carried on by the current ArmaLite, I have no qualms or doubts.  I was one of the first to order back in January, I wish they would come, but they will be here when they get here.  I will wait patiently and not get upset.  I am sure they would rather be shipping, but they must have reasons for not shipping yet.  Believe me, they aren't making any money by not shipping.  This is the same thing that happened with the AR50, everybody got impatient and raised hell, but when the AR50 got here, it was well worth it.  I would rather they take the time and debug the rifle instead of having us do it.  As for your questions:
1. NO.  When did they say April?
2. Don't have one yet, but see above about originals.
3.Yes, unless the dealer tries to rob you.  They will probably be less than the MSRP of $590.

po89mm, which version is the original your are looking at: Sterling, Costa Mesa, or Howa?  If Sterling, he is just a little high, if Howa or Costa Mesa, go for it.  You definitely got to have an original to go with the 180B.

Oh, by the way zaz, have you ordered one?  If not, it doesn't matter when they start shipping.  Even if you ordered now, it would probably be oct/nov before you get it.

Used to own a AR-180, ser in S206XX range. Had it about 20yrs ago, and go rid of it. I had a AR15 SP1 at the same time, and I refered to the 180 as a poor man's AR.

It may turn your crank, but not mine. I would not bash the rifle, as it just was not my cup of tea.

The rifle to me, seemed 'tinny' and was just stamped junk. Even fragile in some ways. Reminds me of the 5.56mm LSW F89A1 Minimi in a way.

The 180 functioned flawlessly for me, but I'd take my ole AR anytime.

Anyways thats my 2c.

All nine (9) of ArmaLite Pre-Ban AR-180's turn my crank !!
I've had my AR-180B on order since February and one day it will show and hopefully also turn-my-crank !

"1feral1"- it's kinda interesting that you say"...but I'll take my ole AR anytime.." because the "AR" stands for ArmaLite !!! And now you know.

"zazou" - the ArmaLite folks will be gratified to know their site is obscure !!

OK, maybe obscure was the wrong word.  I am not so dumb as to not see what Armalite has on it.   I meant other than the general info at Armalite's Web Site.  It'sreally just a few photos and basic specs....the links that contained any other info (held one, saw one, etc) were obscure.

If it's an original CostaMesa or Howa rifle in very good to excellent shape, $1100 with 5 original 40s, IMHO, is not a bad price considering the mags themselves can fetch up to $75 or more each.

Does anyone know if Armalite is going to offer the scope mount and scope again?  If so, any idea on cost?

Thanks,

What type of operating system does this rifle use?  Does it use an op rod for the bolt, or is it like the AR?

Hey Zaz, Bought my AR15 (for $290.00 US) and 180 (forgot what I paid for it) from a guy in Froid, MT. He was a Deputy of Roosevelt County, but left LEO for better opportunities. He now lives in Scobey. If you know a guy named Carl T, and he has a computer, pls fwd my email addr on to him, thanks!
