If someone was doing custom lowers, would the serial number have to be an actual number? Or could it be a word, or a bunch of apostrophes, etc...... ?

I belive that the serial number must contaion atleast one number.

so you could do (xxxx1) or whatnot.

I've got MolonLabe1 on mine.. just has to have a number in it somewhere, AFAIK.

Nope, I have a Cav-Arms custom lower with no numbers in it.

Thats what I was wondering about, if I do a build(starting it soon, I hope)
and I get pulled over or harrassed for some reason(wrong place, wrong time)
I was thinking that the Cops were not going to like an AR-15 with no serial number
like they would think it was an illegal weapon or a stolen weapon with the serial number removed
(please, don't anybody say that the Cops are knowledgeable about weapon laws.............)

So I can just put anything I want on it as long as it has a number in it?
if that is the case I want to use 22bad, that would be neat-o

(of course, they will like that even less, heh)

what happens if I tire of that weapon or it breaks and want to put 22bad on version 2.0?
will removing the # from the first lower(or having two with the same #)be a crime?
do I have to melt the first one down?

just have rifle no.1 as IAMSOGOODmk1, mk11 and so on when thats used up NO.2 IAMEVENBETTER mk1 and so on. cops dont like AR- 15s anyway.

the only reason im on this site is because, people of gun culture are the same across the world. In oz you cant defend your home with a firearm, i am planning on moving to the states so i can have my freedom to own and carry a weapon. a person who loves firearms like myself ends up very sufficated and agrivated in this country.
