poll inbound....

It is legal.
It may not be legal where you happen to live however. But we all know that the whole world revolves around us. |
I wouldn't use their services, but I don't think that keeping it illegal is doing anything good....but it is doing a lot of bad.
1) You can still find prostitutes. So prohibition is not prohibiting it, at all. 2) By keeping it illegal, sex workers do not enjoy the same protections that other workers do. 3) Illegality keeps pimps and other worse criminal types "in the game." Some of the money generated (that isn't given to the girl) is funneled into organized crime...which is bad. 4) STD testing could be mandated if the activity was legal, but no mandates can cover an already illegal activity. 5) Safe places to conduct business are few-far between (more crime, prostitutes become victims, etc). Making it legal would solve a huge chunk of those problems. It would also make policing the activity a hell of a lot easier since it wouldn't be a "mobile" enterprise like it is now. |

Adults should be able to do whatever they want as long as I don’t have to pay for it… |

Damn...didn't think GD would be so pro pros...considering all the evil weed banners.

My next poll will be:
"Should arfcom have an "Erotic Services" classified section ala Backpage"? |
Yes, for the many reasons already stated in this thread.
Interestingly enough, it already is as long as a video camera is involved. |
Why would I give a rats ass what someone does with their money. Hell look at the pluses when certain states legalized marijuana. Huge amount of tax dollars. I reckon the same could be done.

YES, legalize it then there can be another government agency that is needed to monitor diseases, another to monitor taxes, another to monitor places that they work. we need more government.
I thought it was already. What with the way the government is fucking all of us now
It would be a great way to finally legitimize trafficking and exploitation.

But then it would probably be subsidized for the free shit army.

It should be, like gay marrriage, decided by a showdown in the United States Supreme Court by all those geriatric persons of legislative acumen. There's way more prostitutes than LBGTQ
Yes. Is there anything that belongs to you more than your own body does?

It shouldn't be illegal.
Yeah, yeah, I know it sounds like the same thing, but humor me for a couple seconds: At some point before it was illegal, and now that there are laws against it, there were/are people who thought/think: "I don't like what those people are doing over there, I will threaten them with prison or death unless they stop." 'I think _______ shouldn't be legal or should be illegal' lets me know exactly who the fuck I'm dealing with. |
[sarcasm] Cmon mann, you can't just go ahead and legalize it. Think about all the rapist out there, there wont be a challenge, you gonna make it sound boring then [/sarcasm]

Women will always cost, but marriage is the most expensive way to go. If you want to pay for it, go to Australia. For a hundred bucks you can order a whore over the phone. Half an hour later she arrives at your door, fresh and hot like a pizza. View Quote |

Legalized prostitution isn't about making everything squeaky clean. It's about acknowledging that regardless of government attempts, prostitution is going to happen. Period. If it's legal then the government has one less thing to do raids over and a larger number of girls in the trade might have a better shot at life.
It's an acknowledgement that .gov can't fix the problem. At best, it can keep from making it worse. |
Any law that is ignored by this many people for this long is clearly against human nature and should be repealed. Do I like what it does to some people? No. OTOH I don't like what gambling and alcohol does to some people but banning those is also stupid.
There really is no government agency left with moral credibility enough to tell anybody what they cannot do regardless of right and wrong.

It would also condemn a large number of women who aren't doing it by choice. It already is a defacto domestic slave business. An 18 year old prostitute didn't necessarily get into the business on her 18th birthday. |
The prohibition on prostitution is no more effective than the prohibition on alcohol or narcotics.
Legalizing it might make things a little bit better for some of the prostitutes and gives government one less thing to do government shit about. So I'm for legalization. I don't pretend that it will fix all the problems because it sure as fuck won't. It may give us a slightly less obnoxious set of problems. |
