I talk to myself sometimes when no one else is around. Not just out of the blue, mind you, but in reactions to occurances. For instance, if I see Hitlery on TV I might say, "Commie Bitch get off my screen." Or in other instances (like today) while reading certain posts, I said, "What in the world were you thinking?" And just a moment ago I checked the pie thread and saw that nobody got my joke and I said, "dang folks - you just skipped right over that."

Is this uncommon? Do any of you talk to yourselves? I have an otherwise normal life. And this isn't a new thing. I've done this for years. But I just never asked anyone if they did the same thing.

I'll throw a poll up for the ones who don't want to admit they don't talk to themselves.

Yes I do and then wonder what I said.

When you read what you are about to post, do you talk it or just read it? Not responses but a post you author.

For the last 5 years at work, I have worked with 4 other people in a big ass warehouse on the evening shift. I have noticed that I will express my thoughts out loud, I guess from loneliness, but you can't turn it off completely away from work. Kind of embarassing when you do it and someone else is around.

Oh, its not embarassing at all for me if someone overhears. That has never even occured to me. Why is it embarassing?

Link Posted: 9/19/2004 9:19:35 AM EST
Just with the voices in my head.
Link Posted: 9/19/2004 9:20:15 AM EST
No, I don't. (Yes you do). Shutup!
Link Posted: 9/19/2004 9:23:16 AM EST
I seem to ... because no one else bothers to listen.

Just don't talk to the TV....that is sick.

Actually, that brings up another question. I wonder if anyone asks themselves a question and then answers it. I guess that would be an ocassion when one would be embarassed if another person overheard.

You don't even make simple comments to the television? Like, "Ha! Yeah, right!"

Link Posted: 9/19/2004 9:27:33 AM EST
Only at work because I need someone intellegent to talk to

Yes, like the old joke, "I ask myself questions all the time - its the only way to get a smart reply!"

Link Posted: 9/19/2004 9:30:14 AM EST
Just the occasional "Fuckin A!" while reading the arfcom.

I mostly talk when on this site. Many times I'll look back at the previous evenings posts I entered and say, "what the hell prompted me to say something like that?"

And that eventually led to the reason of my new sig line.

I used to ... but about 3 years ago, what I said to myself insulted me real bad.... I admit... I WAS HURT.

I havent talked to myself since then. I kinda miss those old days when I just sat down and talked to myself about the good old days. Maybe I just need to bury the hatchet and give myself a call. Catch up once again on old times.

I think I will. I miss me.

sometimes I feel like I am posting to myself

Just do it. You'll regret it if you don't.

Sing this song: "I love myself, I love me so, I took myself to a picture show. I wrapped my arms around my waist, I even tried to kiss my face."

And then break out the hand lotion.

As long as it's not a two sided conversation, you should be ok.
I don't talk to myself. I think out loud.

We are the only one's making sense these days. :-)

No, never. Unless I smash my finger or something.
Talking to yourself is like moving your lips when you read.
Link Posted: 9/19/2004 11:46:55 AM EST
I find the best place to talk to yourself is on the crapper, that way you've got to listen to what you've got to say and can't just walk off. My wife laughs at me for talking to myself on the crapper, guess she just don't understand, it's the only way I can get an intellegent conversation around here,LOL.
Link Posted: 9/19/2004 12:35:11 PM EST
Yes but only when i am like taking something apart i say how i tok it apart and i remember how to put it back together.
Link Posted: 9/19/2004 4:31:26 PM EST
Here's a kicker. When I took "Human Growth and Development" in college, a study was shown that people who talk to themselves usually have a higher level of intelligence.

"...do you like apples?" "I got her number. How 'bout them apples?"

LT's party was great. It was a blast seeing everyone again. And I finally got to meet Doublefeed and DVDTracker.

A treat, indeed!

I have a math professor that suggested that we talk to ourselves! He said our grades would improve.

I usually don't talk to myself. However I play golf a lot and as a result I say "You fucking dumbass, what the fuck where you thinking, hitting the ball like that!" and "You fucking pussy, hit the goddamned ball!" "Get your head out of your ass and play like you are suppose to" also frequently come out of my mouth.
Link Posted: 9/19/2004 6:11:52 PM EST
i talk to myself often
and maybe play with myself too is that wrong?
Link Posted: 9/19/2004 6:32:11 PM EST
It's just that it's sometimes eaiser to understand with I'm thinking if I vocalize it so I can hear it. It's like speaking it makes it real, hey, it worked for God, why not us.LOL
Link Posted: 9/19/2004 6:35:28 PM EST
I talk to myself, but, like my wife, I've learned to ignore me.
Link Posted: 9/19/2004 6:56:52 PM EST
No, I don't like the replies I get

I've always had a tough time talking to myself because I'm always being interrupted by cosmic radio waves.
Link Posted: 9/19/2004 7:41:00 PM EST
only when I have bad headaches, going up in the tower with a scoped rifle is soothing

I talk to myself sometimes, and I talk to my car and even pat it sometimes.

I learned to fly not too long after learning to drive.

One of the things my instructors taught me is that it's better when doing things (like running a checklist or going over an approach procedure) is that if you say everything out loud you're more likely to notice if you miss something or if you're thinking one thing and the procedure calls for something else, you're more likely to catch it if you vocalize it.

30 years later I still talk to myself when doing anything of a similar nature.

Good advice - talking to yourself becomes a measure of safety. Cool.
