A comment in another thread got me thinking. Someone commented about wishing they still had what sounded like their first gun.
Do you still own your first gun? If so, what is it and how long have you had it? I'll start. I do still have my first gun. It is a Remington 870 20 gauge youth model. I was probably 10 or so when I got it and so I've had it for about 22 years or so. I plan to pass it down to my son. |
No. Lost it in a fire. Old marlin 22 that my grandpa gave me.
My dad gave me a Marlin tube loading 22 rifle when I was 10 or so.
Still got it. Going to give to my son when he is old enough. |
I own the first gun I bought with my money but not the first one giving to me.
First one I bought is a Rem 522 Viper that I have had for 15 years but, it needs a lot of work done to it to function reliably. First gun I ever had was a Marlin bolt gun in 22 mag but I don't remember the model. |
Yep, Marlin 881 bolt action. Shitty trigger, but stupid accurate.
Yes, my Dad gave me a Winchester Model 60, IIRC, .22 when I turned 15. He was 15 when he got it. It'll be my sons when he's actually matures and is responsible enough.
I've never sold or traded a gun. I have some that never get shot, but I just can't bring myself to sell them. |

My Dad got me a Savage Model 5 (bolt action, tubular magazine .22) when I was 10 years old.
When I was 18, I acquired a Ruger Single Six .22. When I was away at college, my mother gave them away just to spite me and my Dad. Yeah, she was a real peach. ETA: When I finished college and started getting paychecks, I bought a new Single Six. When gunbroker.com came into being, I found two Savage Model 5's and bought both of them. Just to spite my mom. |

Custom 10/22
I was young and dumb and pawned it. :( Posted Via AR15.Com Mobile |

Yes, Winchester Mod. 12, nothing fancy but a nice old shotgun.
Yea, single shot New England Firearms 20ga. Case color hardened receiver, gorgeous walnut stock.
Yes, single shot 22 LR rifle. Got it for Christmas in 1959.
Was stolen/returned in the 80's, survived a fire in 1997. Shot a lot of squirrels with it as a kid. A range trip is in it's future now due to this thread. |
Yes, a Stevens single shot, breakdown, 410 shogun that my Great Grandfather gave my Dad when he was a kid and my Dad gave it to me when I was 6.
Killed a lot of squirrels with it in my early days. |
I still have the first gun I bought for myself, a gen 1 Glock 19. A friend in college got me into shooting and I decided I liked that model enough to be my first purchase.
It's not the first gun I ever shot though. My dad took me out as a kid and taught me to fire a .22 rifle he'd had since he was a kid. I have both of those, still. I don't fire them though; he didn't keep them up and I got them after he died. They're more sentimental items than firearms for me now. |
Yeah, my dad's Steven's Crackshot Junior .22 and his Winchester M36 12g. I still have them.
yes, an ithaca lever action single shot .22lr that my dad gave me...
I do also have the first gun I bought when I turned of legal age. Remington 870 12 gauge.
Still have mine. Actually it's at my parent's house its a crack-barrel H&R .410. Dad bought it for my sixth Christmas. Has a broken firing pin though.
Yep!
I still own all guns I have bought. Came close to selling some of them, but figured out a way not to! I am not in the business of selling! All I own work and have a purpose! |
Yes! I was five years old when my dad gave me his Hamilton and Son model 27 22cal rifle that his Dad gave him when he was five years old. Im 63 years old now, so I have had it a long long time.
Yes, a Mossburg .22 single shot bolt action.
Parents got it for me in the 60's with trading stamps. I put a little Weaver scope on it then, and it's still working fine. The rifle is still a little long and has too much stock, but I still use it for squirrel control. |
Yes, it's a Remington 510X that my dad bought when I was 8 or 9 in about 1972. Camp Hahn, the Boy Scout summer camp at the Lake of the Ozarks, got new 22 rifles and auctioned off their old ones. Dad bought about 10 of them for 5 or 10 dollars a piece. We cleaned them up and fixed anything that was wrong with them. He kept one with just incredibly beautiful wood, let me pick another to keep for myself and sold the rest. I still have both of them.
Yes, Marlin Golden 39A.
First I bought myself? No, sadly. Rem 788 in .243 that I paid for myself and filled out the 4473 myself when I was 12. Mom just had to sign the thing. Sold it when I was 32. Wish I hadn't. Crazy accurate little rifle. |
Nope Springfield xdm compact was to top heavy, replaced it with a g19 best move ever
Yes...Norinco 56S and a Glock 22 Gen.2, both bought in 1991.

No
Remington 410 pump (Have no idea what model it was) Next bad move was selling my Browning Sweet Sixteen youth model, my second gun. We are all young and foolish at some point. |
Yes. Marlin Model 60. Bought it at Kmart on my 18th birthday.
Yes. A Mod 67 Winchester .22 LR single shot. My Grandmother bought it for my Dad when he was 13, in 1936, he's 92 and the rifle has been mine since I was a kid. Most accurate .22 I own.
