I say that I love them both equally but for some reason, I have 2 times as many handguns as long guns. What about you guys? Which do you own more of and which do you love more? Do you try to even out your collection between the two?

way more rifles than pistols, because I love rifles more. Thus I'm on a website called "ar15.com" and not "pistolforum.com"

I have more handguns than rifles but I want to have an equal amount of both either by reducing the handguns or increasing the rifles. I like both equally.

So anyone with a couple of ARs can't enjoy them or get anything out of this site because they have more handguns and shoot them more often?

Link Posted: 3/6/2015 9:45:42 AM EDT
way way more rifles. Like three to one at least.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 9:48:10 AM EDT
Way more rifles. I love handguns but also view them as more utilitarian for self defense when out in public. An accurate rifle is pure joy to shoot whether punching paper, banging steel or hunting critters.
Given my druthers, I'll take a rifle over hand gun for 99% of uses. You just can't walk around Chipolte with them without looking like Fatty or Snowboots or Zaminski.

more long guns...

That's about right for my collection as well.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 9:51:08 AM EDT
If you include shotguns then I own more long guns than handguns.

If you get nit picky and say "only rifle caliber long guns" then I think I have more handguns.

My preference is actually in the middle: pistol caliber SBRs, of which I own several.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 9:52:13 AM EDT
I used to collect 1911s, so I have more handguns, but haven't bought a handgun in years so the long guns will eventually outpace them.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 9:53:36 AM EDT
I have waaaaay more rifles than handguns. Id like to shoot my handguns more but its such a pain in the ass to recover the brass at the range I use. My rifle brass gets ejected into a net I clamp on the side of my bench.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 9:54:21 AM EDT
Guns are icky. I count on the kindness of strangers, and the forbearance of reptiles.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 9:55:18 AM EDT
Way more rifles, most of my handguns are for carrying, I build most of my rifles if I could build most of my handguns it'd be equal.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 9:55:52 AM EDT
Honestly, it varies. Really depends on what my latest buying spree was. I'm in rifle mode currently.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 9:58:26 AM EDT
Pretty sure I have more handguns although it may be about even.

Between carrying, USPSA, only reloading handgun rounds and the limitations of the private land that I normally shoot on I shoot my handguns a lot more often than my long guns.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 9:58:31 AM EDT
I have more rifles. Each one suited to exceed in a particular skill set. Precision rigs, hunting set ups for turkey, whitetail, skeet guns, etc.
I shoot pistols more often though. Started shootind IDPA so theres a new tool coming soon for that...yipee!!!
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 9:58:46 AM EDT
I have more long guns than pistols. Each of my long guns are for more specific uses and my pistols each serve a more general purpose.

Pistols: cold carry weather, hot carry weather, revolver, nightstand, 1911 and .22
Long guns: deer shotgun, deer rifle #1 #2 and #3, turkey shotgun, duck/goose shotgun, ARs, .22s, bolt guns and lever guns.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 9:59:41 AM EDT
more long guns
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 10:00:12 AM EDT
I have some handguns, but they seem puny and boring after shooting my rifles. Although, my AR pistol is probably a fav right now and that kinda spans the gap.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 10:02:13 AM EDT
Way more long guns. More power more accuracy, usually more capacity.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 10:03:50 AM EDT
I like shooting. A lot. I shoot pistols and rifles and even shotguns.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 10:05:30 AM EDT
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 10:05:35 AM EDT
I have more long guns, but most of them are family "gift" (hand me downs) fudd guns. I still like them though.

I have about twice as many handguns as I do rifles and about twice as many rifles as I do shotguns.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 10:09:40 AM EDT
I have an equal number of rifles to pistols, however money wise I have 5 times more invested in rifles than I do in handguns.

Snatched up a Belgian Hi-Power Monday, took maybe 10 minutes. Mainly because I was rummaging thru the displays for 3 mags to go with it.

Even. Three long guns and three handguns.

Windham Weaponry WW-15
Spike's Franken Rifle ST-15 (Homebuilt)
Springfield M1A-A1 Scout Squad

Beretta 92FS
Taurus PT1911AR
Ruger GP100 Match Champion

Way more pistols than rifles, but I enjoy shooting rifles more. It's a time thing for me, I can take the pistols to the local indoor range, shoot off 200 rounds and be home in just over an hour, including drive time. While the outdoor rifle range I prefer is a hour and a half in drive time alone.

Very few pistols. I only need one to fight my way back to the rifle I should have brought in the first place. I like rifles and lots of them. Preferably rifles of military utility. The only thing a pistol does better than a rifle is ride on your hip.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 10:20:52 AM EDT
Way more long guns than pistols. My pistol is for defense and competition, and all my long guns are for hunting and play.

Rifles make me smile, and I have lots of them. Pistols are only around because I would look like an idiot carrying a rifle everywhere. I have a few pistols, but don't go nuts about them.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 10:22:48 AM EDT
Right now probably more long guns and I sort of drift back and forth on a favorite.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 10:24:22 AM EDT
My collection is actually pretty equal. I didn't try and make it that way, it just turns out that way.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 10:24:39 AM EDT
Training = Rifle
SD = Pistol
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 10:25:30 AM EDT
I own many more handguns than rifles and I'm much more proficient with them

I'm sort of like "Quigley " but in reverse.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 10:27:11 AM EDT
Handguns are for fighting your way back to your rifle, which you shouldn't have put down in the first place.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 10:30:26 AM EDT
I've only got 6 handguns, a couple are safe queens (my Python doesn't get a ton of range time anymore), but the rest get used fairly often. I've got something like 20-ish rifles, but I'd have to double check that . Most are hunting rifles/fudd guns, but I really only use 4-5 rifles consistently (including my 2 ARs). I inherited most of my collection and just can't bring myself to sell them off.

Link Posted: 3/6/2015 10:30:32 AM EDT
I have 2 handguns, 5 rifles, 1 shotgun and one "pistol" I'm waiting on a tax stamp to come back on.

Plenty of people have trouble climbing the basement stairs and fighting their way to the crapper.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 10:35:42 AM EDT
I like long rifles, and short barreled rifles.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 10:36:35 AM EDT
More hand guns. Not sure why.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 10:41:35 AM EDT
I have way more rifles than handguns. I just like shooting rifles more. Handguns are fun to to shoot and a necessity to own, but rifles are just more enjoyable on the range in my opinion.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 10:50:51 AM EDT
Twice as many long guns than pistols.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 10:52:23 AM EDT
Way more long guns here but pistols are so damn collectable.
Link Posted: 3/6/2015 10:55:22 AM EDT
Roughly 7:4 ratio of long guns to pistols.
