I was talking with some guys in chat and they found it odd that I name my guns. What do you guys think?

Betty is my Remington 870
Jessica is my AR-15
Michelle is my USP
Lisa is my 1911
Bonnie is my Winchester 94
Lola is my S&W 686
I have not yet named my chinese SKS.
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 12:23:41 AM EST
Nope.
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 12:25:10 AM EST
No, thats weird.
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 12:25:17 AM EST
I call one of them "my rifle" and the other one "my pistol".
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 12:26:34 AM EST
Nope.

How is it weird? I thought naming guns was normal...

nope, but i do refer to my polish m-44 as my boomstick
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 1:01:41 AM EST
Nope, just by their brand names.
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 1:23:58 AM EST
Some men name their guns after women.
There are some advantages to that. For instance if someone hears "I'm taking Betty to the range," it's better than, "I'm taking my AR-15 to the range." It's also fun when you go hunting, for instance, "Me and Betty took down a nice grizly bear."

The disadvantages are that some people thing that you are a little crazy and looking for a girlfriend.

I plan on naming my guns and duct taping the name over the sereal numbers just for fun.
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 1:26:22 AM EST
I name my firearms.

My gun however remains unnamed, but it's legend has been heard about in 10 states.
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 1:30:05 AM EST
I don't but, my 8 yr old has decided they all need names
so here is what she named them

Charlie
Buster
Fred
George
Wilbur
Hank

and a bunch of others
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 1:33:32 AM EST
They already have names. Like "Springfiled", "Ruger", etc.
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 1:35:45 AM EST
Do they talk to you?
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 1:36:35 AM EST

I don't name my guns. I don't name my car, I don't name my tools, I don't name my electronic appliances either. All of them have names (or at least alphanumeric designations).

Naming guns is a little odd.
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 3:33:18 AM EST
Only named one my Bennelli Super 90 M1, call it the BMF!
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 3:34:57 AM EST
Mine are named Colt and Bushy.

I'm not very creative.
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 3:35:49 AM EST
I named my M4 Betsy. No other firearms have names though.
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 3:42:13 AM EST
Nope, I just call them what they are.
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 3:49:50 AM EST
I call my AR my .22. As in "just taking my .22 to the range today" OR Q: "What's in the bag?" A: "Just my .22"

No. Naming inanimate objects has always kind of been strange to me. I don't call my computer "Franklin," I call it a computer. Same with my rifles. Hey guys! Check out this new website I found on my Franklin!
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 3:55:36 AM EST
All of mine are named "Happy MacDeathkiller."

My pistol is named "Easy Jesus."
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 3:55:36 AM EST
Sort of. I reload and keep records the accuracy of my loads in different guns. Rather than record 'Sporterized Mauser in 257 Roberts' use 'Bob' and instead of 'Bushmaster with 16" varmint upper' I use 'ARmint'. But I don't go around saying 'this is Bob he is my rifle there are many like him but this one is mine'.

No you cant give them guy names if you are a guy, gotta give em girl names. My computer is Zelda.
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 4:09:49 AM EST
I never have named any of my guns, just my hats. If I ever get a tank, I want to name it "Fluffy".

You have a web browser running on your Franklin? Wow. I'm impressed that it even has networking!

Only if I get one that is unreliable.

I name it piece of sh*t, and get rid of it!

Yep. All but one is named after girls I once knew.

AR-180B is Erin. Irish related rifle, and the cute redheaded Irish girl actually requested it. A couple months later she joined the USAF, stopped talking to me, and vanished.
Winchester Model 70 is Kimberly.
Browning 12 is Leah.

My Beretta 92FS is referred to as "The Morrigan". Bonus points to those who get that.

The Remington pump action .22LR I have at home is called Melanie. It looked fun at first, but turned out to be an unreliable, miserable bitch.

Not usually but I have an older Scattergun Technologies K9 1187. It's black, has a side saddle and a surefire light. It's really sinister looking, I named it darth
M
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 5:13:04 AM EST
The name is already stamped on it.

M-15
SW99
etc.
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 5:13:31 AM EST
No, why would you want too?
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 5:30:21 AM EST
In OSUT at Benning we had to name our rifles. I named mine Stormbringer. I think everyone else named theirs after women, except a kid from CA who named his "my little friend". As in "I want you to meet my little friend".
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 5:38:03 AM EST
not really, never really thought of it.
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 5:42:04 AM EST
Bushmater AR 14.5" SBR = CHAOS
Bushmaster AR 16" = MAYHEM

Link Posted: 4/27/2005 3:33:24 PM EST
Poll added.
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 3:45:27 PM EST
I call them by thier brand names or calibers.
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 4:34:00 PM EST

not at all, a gun is just metal, I have no feeling s for material things at all.

....... I have a framed version of this,,,,,,,,,

purely coincidental though

I named my S&W 629 "Fluffy" (no real reason), and my Glock 27 "Junior" because it's younger/newer and smaller than my Glock 22.
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 4:47:03 PM EST
my neo 22 beretta is called my beretta
my ruger p89 is called my ruger
my S&W 640 is called my revolver

The P99 is the "Punkbuster"

When I got my first AR-a Colt-the GF and I were calling it BAG. For Bad Assed Gun.

I don't call it that any longer. It's The Colt.

Now, my neighbor with the FN 5-7 calls his "Icepick".

He calls his Ruger P89 (?) "Ole Blocky" and his 45/22 "Difficult POS" (pertaining to cleaning)
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 7:02:16 PM EST
all of them are called betsy.
Link Posted: 4/27/2005 7:17:35 PM EST
I name mine after girls I have previously known and been fond of. My Bushmaster's name is Jordan. The FAL I recently sold was named Charlotte. My next rifles or pistols will be named Tiffany, Laura, and Katie. I know that it's weird.
