Had a good friend pass over a year ago. Big gun collection, reloading, accessories ect ect. Maybe he had a premonition or was just thinking ahead but some time before he got sick he asked if I and another mutual friend would take care of "things" if he died. Without a thought we said of course. It turned into a huge job and alot of hours to catalog 70+ guns and everything else a lifelong firearm enthusiast collects in a lifetime. I'm not complaining, I know he would have done it for me. What people don't realize when they say, "oh, my wife will handle it", that may not be the best thing. Spouses will be experiencing great emotion and have a multitude of other things to deal with, if she had just taken everything to a pawn shop or gun store, she would have had to hire a moving van, moving help and only gotten a fraction of the monetary value. In this case we were able to liquidate the collection in a reasonable amount of time (I'm an FFL), realize an excellent return and take care of majority of the business and medical debt which otherwise would have been a huge burden.

What ever it is that you are hoarding, collecting ect ect. Catalog it and place values on those items. A family member or friend thats not familiar with your hobby could look at an old SAA Colt worth 10k and think "its just some old junky gun" and accept the first $50 they are offered for it. You may not care, after all your dead, but the extra money will go a long way towards helping to extinguish any debts or providing a small nest egg for the surviving spouse or loved one.
