I seem to.  Went to Vegas in October, came back with burning sinuses, a head cold and a sore throat.  For Christmas, drove out east, and came back with the same thing.  Congestion, and sinuses so dry it burns to breathe.

I figure it's one of two things.  Either the smoke in the casinos in Vegas along with my chain smoking in-laws and mother, or all the damn germs you are exposed to when you travel.  Lots of times when I fly I'll get pinkeye too.

I am super-careful when stopping at rest stop shitters, make sure to wash my hands very thoroughly, shut the faucet off and open the door with the paper towel, etc.

Never happened to me.  I sneezed on a flight during decent, it felt like something in my ear ripped, hurt like hell.

Quoted:
Some people get sick when they visit friends or relatives who they haven't been around for a significant period of time.

Everybody in a household shares germs - called resident bacteria.   The wife, the kids, even the family pet - all share each other's bacteria.

So, when you have dinner at their house, you get exposed to their bacteria.   Sometimes it can have an adverse affect on you.   Usually it's gastro-intestinal in nature but not always.

Of course, this is only one way to account for getting ill on a trip away from home.  There are plenty of other causes.

The last time I was in Vegas I spent most of my time on a toilet.  I think it was from a bad buffet.

I've been homeless since September when I sold my house.  Been on the road since then.  25,000 miles/14 states.  I've had a few "off" days where I've been just didn't feel "right" and one day that I'd classify as "sick" but a long sleep and eating a bit healthier for a bit and it passed.

I think the saving grace for me is that I'm not having a lot of contact with people.  On the road, motels, keeping the fast food simple, vitamins and juice every day.

From your description I think your more a victim of second-hand smoke than anything else.
