Just wondering also. I consider myself a traditional conservative and hope that after this election the republican party shifts toward that end. poll coming.

well, in order to save time b/c I have to leave my house in a bit, I'll just use the platforms of two people. Bush=neo  and lets say someone like Buchanan=traditional

I try to think independent of party lines as I am firmly of the belief that the party system has served it's purpose and is now obsolete.

However, my core beliefs and values do tend to mimic closely the politicians with "R"'s after their names.

I am not a single issue voter, but firearms are OBVIOUSLY important to me....

...but I don't feel that we should be outlawing abortion, even though I find it personally repulsive.

Conservative.

I actually think that Bush is a Liberal (especially a fiscal liberal). The only reason that I am voting for him is because I think that Kerry is a Socialist and a traitor!

I'm far more conservative than virtually any elected Republican.

Think: Dick Cheney during his U.S. Rep days.

FWIW.

Part of why you think Bush is a fiscal liberal is because of the spending of congress.  Of course alot of that spending was done because we're fighting a global war while digging ourselves out of a recession.

Bush gave a huge tax break and wants to renew it!  Tell me again why hes a fiscal liberal?

None of us are neo-cons (sorry Imbroglio!)

"Neo-cons" are/were a small group of mostly Jewish, New York intellectuals who changed their political affiliation from communist/leftist to right wing in the 60's.  When I say small, I mean maybe 2 dozen at most.

Actually, it's not.  A neo con is a conservative that has given up the theory of less government, and is prone to using government force to achieve his political agenda.  In this manner, his ideas about government control and intervention in our lives is just like those on the left.  Where the vector points is not material, just the strength...

I think you goofed the vector metaphor. The length is the same, the direction is different. If not, can you elaborate?

Definition of neo-con -

A big gov't conservative as it relates to foreign policy (i.e. beleives we ARE the worlds policeman, at least as it concerns Israel)

Stated another way, neo-cons beleive Israel is the 51st state, and a US welfare state at that.

We get all Israels baggage, expenses, and socialist clap-trap, in return for some poorly defined, non-descript thing called "intelligence."

(Editors note: said  Israeli  "intelligence" DID NOT warn us of Beirut 1983, or Cole 1998 or WTC 1993, or WTC 2001, or lack of WMD stockpiles in Iraq 2003, or anything of tangible benefit. Notably, the fine folks in Israeli "intelligence" DID bring us (even giving them the benefit of the doubt) that fuster-cluck called USS Liberty 1967. 34 dead, some 168 wounded, in an hour long case of "mistake identity" on a clear, bright and sunny day, 15 miles from ANY so-called "fog of war)

I'm garandman, and I support the  contents of this fine post.

Wrong.  A neo-con is someone who used to be a liberal but became a foreign policy conservative over defense issues.  It doesn't apply to most people here.

Reagan, that Hippie Liberal.
I more conservative on every issue except abortion. Not including partial birth, that's just wrong.

Not enough abortion to go around.
Just  look around and see all these people that should have been aborted. No sense in having children when no one in society will raise them properly.

Still, for the life of me, I cannot understand why people on the far-right are so infatuated with that failed socialist experiment called 'Nazism'.  Since it takes one to know one, Stalin said it best when describing Hitler, "Our fellow socialist in Europe."
