I have been thinking about buying an AK and maybe an SKS because they are so cheap to buy and shoot. I can't help but think it is wrong to be buying the same weapons that shot and killed our boys. Do you buy Communist weapons?
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 4:34:02 AM EDT
Various US units hve for various reasons used NUMEROUS weapons... 'Killed our boys' is a GRAPHIC generalization.... For my collection, I have numerous weapons in ALL military calibers....from around the world...
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 4:35:17 AM EDT
I buy em. Inexpensive both for the firearm and ammo, reliable, and you don't have to clean em often.
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 4:38:21 AM EDT
It's highly unlikely you'll be able to buy an AK or as SKS that 'shot and killed our boys.' Now, you may be able to buy an AK or SKS that was manufactured by the same company that made weapons that shot and killed our boys. If that's a problem, don't buy anything from PolyTech or Norinco. But Romania, Egypt, Hungary, Bulgaria have not been at war with the US. You can buy an AK or SKS made from a manufacturer from one of those countries. I would say Russia, as well, but it may have supplied AKs and SKSs to N. Vietnam. BTW, you would buy a nice wartime Walther P-38 or Lugar, wouldn't you? Eric The Hun[>]:)]
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 4:43:43 AM EDT
The cold war is over already, and we one. And like Eric the Hun already said, we never fought an eastern block country, or Egypt, and they make some of the best rifles anyway. Get one. I hug my commie gun often.
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 4:48:09 AM EDT
Nothing wrong with an AK or SKS, reliable and fun to shoot. Almost zero maintenance and easy to break down to clean every few thousand rounds.
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 5:00:48 AM EDT
How many M-16's "killed our boys" due to {not}friendly fire??? How many AK's were used by SOG teams and others to "kill their boys"? I own a vintage Winchester 1897 pumpshotgun. It very well could have been used to kill and drive out my people from their native lands to the west when the Europeans came. But I see firearms as the tools used, not the ones responsible for the misdeeds or atrocities of any people.
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 5:27:40 AM EDT
Sure I add them to the collection COMRAD!!
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 5:28:09 AM EDT
I felt the same way as you do. I bought a sovbloc weapon purely because it was going to be illegal in CA. First time I stripped it down for cleaning, I fell in love. Basic, simple design
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 5:36:20 AM EDT
Definitely not!
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 5:37:02 AM EDT
I'd skip the SKS and get a couple of AKs. They're a lot more fun.
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 6:01:14 AM EDT
the guns didn't kill, the person pulling the trigger killed and the government that brainwashed the person just as well pulled the trigger. Hell, lot of our boys were killed by m16 copies made by the communists......my 02 worth
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 6:09:19 AM EDT
I love my Chinese SKS. It has never suffered any kind of failure, even with dirt cheap Chinese and Russian ammo. The manual that came with it is particularly entertaining. It says things like "You must only use genuine replacement parts from People's Armory number 416". I know several people who built very accurate 1911 pistols starting with Norinco slides and frames.
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 6:15:57 AM EDT
How many of "Our boys" were killed in Waco with US made rifles.
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 6:25:34 AM EDT
I didn't know guns had political opinions.
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 6:27:24 AM EDT
I'm with MOD. My guns are not political.
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 6:32:27 AM EDT
I don't buy S&W.
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 6:34:04 AM EDT
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 6:39:06 AM EDT
Yes I have but only when I could find them cheap. The money made it to China long before I bought it.

Good point kikomax. Besides, the Chi-coms, unlike S&W, didn't sign up with the Feds to screw us out of our rights. Not to mention that even fact that eventhough S&W will be sold there is no indication that I've seen that they will ditch the agreement

How about German guns? Or is that too far back?
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 6:46:46 AM EDT
That's more a concern when buying WWII guns, which very likely have shot at and killed many of our troups. We haven't had a protracted war with commies, where their used surplus guns are then sold here.

Chain: Guns don't kill people, people kill people.
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 6:52:21 AM EDT
Read the constitution: It says guns are American as apple pie. It doesn't matter who built them.
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 7:01:06 AM EDT
I surprised at the reactions from you guys. I expected a much more pro American response especially since this is an AR site and not an AK site. Whether it was used against us doesn't really matter. They were made by the "enemy" to be used against us. Now don't get me wrong I will probably pick up an AK, but it still seems like selling out, to me at least. I agree with most of your points but why so defensive? It is surprising.
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 7:14:09 AM EDT
I think one of my AR's might be a Commie (or a ComSymp)... ...so I'm gonna keep my eye on him just in case he tries something.
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 7:21:26 AM EDT
Defenitely, I love shooting the AK. The SKS is just ugly in my opinion but it is fun to shoot. I love the AR, don't get me wrong but the "communist weapons" are a thrill to shoot and own.

how much crap that is in your house that is not made in china?
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 8:42:21 AM EDT
Niether my 10/22 or my .38 ever killed "our boys". You people buying those other guns are not being patriotic.
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 8:49:55 AM EDT
The more commie guns we have, the less commie guns the commies have....heh, yeah sure. Anyways, I like quite a few of the commie pieces.
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 12:33:44 PM EDT
Nah, they are inexpensive, made by slave labour. I'd never buy them or cigars, or rum, or coffee or vcrs, et c.

Major Murphy, Keep a close eye on that 5th columnist AR of yours. I have it on good authority that some M-16's (mostly A1's) collaborated with the enemy in Vietnam. It seems that when they were captured, rather going to a prison camp, they instead fired at American troops. Your AR may be a "Manchurian Candidate" sent here by the Communists to infiltrate and corrupt our American AR's. In fact, you better just pack that suspect rifle up and send it to me (along with mags and ammo) for debriefing.
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 1:02:19 PM EDT
I have owned several. I don't own any now. I don't plan to ever buy more. There are better guns available.
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 1:46:55 PM EDT
hmm i have skads of toys that likely have shot some american or alied troops. Like my lugers,p-38's, ppk's, 98's. Then theres my steyr ssg model 82 that was used by east german DDR troops while patroling the berlin wall But i also have many others that likely have the blood of our enemys on them as well like my garands,m1 carbines,p-17, 1911's,model 1917, now if i were to think in a pc type frame of mind, I shouldnt own any of them due to the fact ALL of the above weapons have possibly taken lives good or bad. Now i be confuzid what should i do woth all my blood stained historicaly significant weapons
Link Posted: 5/22/2001 1:54:35 PM EDT
I own two ak's. Sure they are pieces of shit slapped together by a couple of monkey's in some third world sweat shop, but I still got more than I paid for. Why the hell wouldn't you buy a gun like that. It wasn't the gun that killed our soldiers, it was the enemy that did that. Same argument used against gun control applies here, guns don't kill people, people kill people. So why take it out on a gun?

That's the only reason for me. I don't glorify them though.
Link Posted: 5/23/2001 5:17:42 AM EDT
Yes, I have bought a Bulgarian Ak and a SKS paratrooper. I enjoy shooting both guns and they have been problem free.
Link Posted: 5/23/2001 2:09:23 PM EDT
Does a firearm know politics? i have yet to meet a firearms that has discussed its position on economics and liberty. would that make the M16 a "fascist" weapon? Fascism=government control (regulation) of private buisness. "communist" gun owning lib P.S. that funny, my AR-15 and my AK just told me "all are base are belong to them"
Link Posted: 5/23/2001 2:15:47 PM EDT
Take advantage of the fact that we defeated communism and can now use their excellent weapons to fight for freedom. radioman
Link Posted: 5/23/2001 2:17:36 PM EDT
I'm a owner of some communist rifles and by my book you can't go wrong if you decide to pick up a few of them. lots of fun and cheap to shoot.
Link Posted: 5/23/2001 2:43:35 PM EDT
We all hear stories about slave labor and such. But overall, I figure the more commie guns the commies sell me, the less the commies look like commies and the more they begin to resemble capitalist pigs. This is the safest, easiest, surest and funnest way to defeat communism once and for all. I'd rather get more cheap guns to piss off the collectivists here at home, who are the real threat to my liberty. Communists in foreign countries pose no realistic threat to me. Communism bad. SKS good.

...so I finally got up the nerve to talk to my AR about my suspicians of him being a commie. I said, "so, are you a commie, or what?" he said, "no, actually I'm a socialist" Well, then he he started going on and on about ammo redistribution, blah, blah, blah....
Link Posted: 5/23/2001 4:50:31 PM EDT
It's the man (or woman) behind the gun that counts, not where it was made. I hate communists (including the overabundance of the ones who are American citizens) but love my pre-ban Norinco 56S. I didn't buy it from a communist, I bought it from a nice gun shop in Pennsylvania. Regards, PD

I have a Chinese M-14 that I wouldn't trade for a Springfield. If you know anything about these rifles then you know why. I think it's great to buy former Soviet block weapons, I see them as cold war trophies, You lose now sell me you weapons, cheap. Just like axis weapons after WWII. So I say buy them. If you served and helped bring about an end to the cold war display them proudly, you earned em!

Didn't Bulgaria cease to be a communist state about 10 years ago?? If so, then my SLR 95 is NOT a commie gun. Truth be known though, when I first brought it home, it seemed more than a little weird parking it in the same safe as my AR's, almost like it didn't deserve the honor. Then I decided that was silly so I just put it there. It's just as effective against commies as it is against anyone else. It's just an object.
Link Posted: 5/23/2001 7:40:54 PM EDT
Get over it. The Chinese invented gun powder for crying out loud. I mean how far back should we go. I'm just happy I got what they think they can get. Come and get it. [-!-]
Link Posted: 5/23/2001 7:44:57 PM EDT
I love commie weapons, especially the WWII era ones. I would not hesitate buying any. They are a very interesting mix of rugged utilitarian manufacture.
