Since DoNotTreadOnMe is going after the kids, let's go after the old farts.

(Do think the Driving age should be 16 or 18)

Limiting the Driving age to 70 would solve all kind of problems

Less Cars on the road - Less Traffic - Roads in better shape - LessTax needed
Less Accidents - Less Drunk Drivers - Insurance Cheaper - Less Tax Needed
Less Foreign Oil Used

Voting is a Right
Driving is a privledge

I know this is probably way off.. but something to think about!

Strict testing should start at 60 years old.

Trust me, if you lived in Florida, you wouldn't have to think about this question.

6 major car accidents in the last 10 years in FL, all the other persons fault, all the responsible people were over 65 years old. They're just completely out to lunch behind the wheel. EVERY day, I see more amazing shit old people pull. Left turn across 3 lanes, no blinker. Pulling in to the fast lane, in front of cars going 70mph, and they're doing 18mph. Drifting in to other lanes and being COMPLETELY oblivious to anyone around them. On and on and on. Driving is NOT a right...or shouldn't be. Old people can be a HUGE hazzard on the road.

If they can pass a vision, reflex & traffic rules test, then let them drive, if not, fuck'em.

Because I said so.

The State of Illinois has a program that provides for more frequent testing as you get older. My father is 80 and has to take the driving test every two years. He has a heavy Truck license; and uses it.

Defiantely needs to be some sort of testing every year. I run across far too many that should have had their licenses taken away. I have seen seniors hit parked cars and not even know they hit them. I have seen them hit huge cement poles and think they didn't hit anything. So yes.

It sounds like a good idea until your 70 and get put in a nursing home because you can't take care of yourself. ETA: How will you get to the store? Doctor? Your kids won't want to take care of you when you can do it yourself.

Stop them no, but they need testing. Maybe even before 60. I nearly got hit this weekend by old people in the wrong lane with left blinker on, until they made a right.

I personally think they should be tested every year after 60 or 65 BUT the same argument could be applied to guns. And I don't think I have to ask how everyone here would react to getting a knock at the door when they're 60 and being told by a sneering BATFELMNOPZYXABC agent that if they don't pass a test they've gotta turn in their guns.

I was at a stoplight en route to my afternoon class when the elderly woman in front of me took her foot off the brakes. The car started rolling backwards towards my front bumper, and I honked several times. No such luck. The car rolled right into mine, and when I finally got her pulled over so I could get her information, I asked why she didn't stop when I honked. She replied, "I'm a little hard of hearing." Exactly the reason she shouldn't be on the road.

Needless to say, I was late to class.

Absolutely NOT.....

although I do think that at age 65 or so, there should be some kind of awareness testing, and reflex testing, and that should happen annually.

It would be easy enough, but to say you cannot drive on the hiways of this country just because of your experience of time, is rediculous.

I know several people that are over 70 that I would trust far more than most 25 year olds.....so age in its self has no bearing what so ever.

Congress exempts themselves all the time. I think we should have the same right!
