I can't stand having a ring on my finger, it's always pinching my finger and pressing against the bones on the fingers next to the ring. It's really annoying. I've tried to convince my wife of this but she doesn't care if it hurts me. She gets pissed when I don't wear the ring.

I never have.
Link Posted: 8/15/2007 5:26:59 PM EDT
I rarely do. Mostly because of the work I do.

I'm not married, but my buddy doesn't wear his because it creates a hazard (he really doesn't want his finger torn off)at his job. He does wear it on a necklace, though.

Nope-job related.

I was a Diemaker, and now a Pipefitter. Back when I was an apprentice, they showed us horrific films of what happens to a hand wearing a ring when it gets caught in moving machinery,or when it gets caught as you jump down from somewhere.. So no, I don't wear one. Never have.

I haven't worn mine in 15 of our 22 years together.
Link Posted: 8/15/2007 5:31:31 PM EDT
My wife wears mine on her thumb

Same here. Just doesn't fir us. We had rings when we got married but did not wear it much. Now not at all. Just sits in her jewelery box.
Link Posted: 8/15/2007 5:32:34 PM EDT
I don't, because for some reason my finger got fat. I need to get it resized.
Link Posted: 8/15/2007 5:33:51 PM EDT
My father never has. I never will get married, so I don't have to worry about it!
Link Posted: 8/15/2007 5:34:53 PM EDT
I own one, but I don't wear it.

Just when I go out on dates

p.s. I'm kidding, I'm not even married

Married 13 years, never wear mine except when we go out to dinner or to social functions. Job related reasons mainly. I suspect if I was a desk jockey, I'd wear it.
Link Posted: 8/15/2007 5:35:36 PM EDT
I do, 24/7.
Link Posted: 8/15/2007 5:36:44 PM EDT
I never wear mine, in fact I don't even know where it is. I hate rings, watches, and anything of that type.

I can't stand rings...

Getting married in October, and I don't intend to. It's a good way to get zapped or lose a finger in my line of work.
Link Posted: 8/15/2007 5:40:16 PM EDT
havent worn my ring for almost 13 years now, same reasons as you, also my job doesnt allow it.

Machinist here hence no ring
Link Posted: 8/15/2007 5:46:08 PM EDT
My grandpa wore his for a while (we live on a farm)
he shorted it across the poles on a starter while working on a pickup. it got pretty damn hot and his finger was so swollen, we had to cut it off. similar thing happened to my dad. My mom smashed hers in a door, had to cut it off too.
I'm not married yet, and I don't plan on wearing one.

Nope.
Not comfortable and also a hazard at work.
Wife wears hers.

Nope. Don't want my girlfriend to know I'm married.

Bad practice around high voltage, but the wifey wears hers.

No jewelry for the kid in 27yr's of marriage.

35yr's in industry with 18 of those on USAF flightlines and still a member of "The 10 Finger Club"...

neither my wife nor I wear rings

(I don't wear any jewelry, for that matter)

Ditto....

I work around electronic & plenty of exposed power terminals.

My wife is okay with it. I don't need a ring to remind me I married a wonderful woman.
Link Posted: 8/15/2007 5:52:28 PM EDT
I don't wear mine either. Out of the 20 years we have been married, I have probably worn it a total of 1 year. I just do not like jewelry. I wear a watch and that is it.
Good Luck with the wife.

That would be us also. Didn't do the big wedding thing. Didn't spend a ton of money on the honeymoon. Since all our "friends" and family were taking bets that we wouldn't last six months, we didn't think a party for them was appropriate. Our 6th anniversary was Monday.
Link Posted: 8/15/2007 5:55:03 PM EDT
I never take mine off.

Not married, but I get to tell the wedding ring horror stories I know.

The Principle at my Alma Mater was playing B-ball after school with some other teaches, went for a slam dunk his ring snagged on one of the net hooks and ripped his finger off. He no longer wears his ring on his finger.

A guy I know a bit was working on his golf cart and he got his hand in the wrong spot and the battery arced and burnt his ring finger. He no longer wears his ring on his finger, but he does have a ring shaped scar.

My wife does, but I don't do to occupation. Been that way for the last 29 years.
Link Posted: 8/15/2007 5:58:29 PM EDT
I lost mine in the dirt while brushing off my back after changing a starter in my Chevy. My Dad poured concrete in the spot where I lost it before I could get back over there and find it. Haven't wore one since!

I wear mine if we're out on a date or special event, otherwise it's too dang uncomfortable. My wife doesn't complain about it much, especially after seeing the pic of the guy that got degloved!
Link Posted: 8/15/2007 5:59:34 PM EDT
I'm not married (yet), but I already made it clear I don't intend to wear mine 95% of the time. I'm a Tool/Diemaker, and I would like to keep the skin and muscle tissue on all my fingers.
Link Posted: 8/15/2007 5:59:41 PM EDT
I didn't for quite a while, but it means a lot to my wife... so, I do.

i'm not married but my dad i don't think was ever worn one and he and my mom have been married 27 year i'm pretty sure he doesn't ever have one any more but with the work we do no way could he were one
Link Posted: 8/15/2007 6:10:57 PM EDT
Married 14 years, haven't worn it since we got home from the honeymoon. My parents have been married 43 years and my dad's never worn his either.

I would post this pic, but I guess I'll just post the link to avoid offending any delicate sensibilities:

Nope, don't wear it. I feel like my skin gets all sweaty and gross under it. I don't wear a watch, either.
Link Posted: 8/15/2007 6:49:17 PM EDT
Only when we get dressed up to go out.

Link Posted: 8/15/2007 6:54:00 PM EDT
Wore it for about a year - but I was constantly taking it off when I worked out, did yard work, worked on the car, etc, etc. I just took it off and left it off for good. Just take it off, she'll get over it.
Link Posted: 8/15/2007 6:55:24 PM EDT
Only wear it about 20% of the time and can't stand it when I do. I have noticed lately ALOT of married people I know (men &women) don't wear them. Are wedding rings out of fashion?
