Now since old people have gotten into technology and Facebook EVERYONE is staring down at their phone when driving. At least over 50% of the time I have to honk at lights because people aren't watching. I see people swerving over the road. People on one way roads unaware a car is behind them driving 5mph because they are fiddling with their fucking phone (happened to me twice today)

Self correcting problem

This is why I look forward to self driving cars.

Understood, and they bear full responsibility for doing so

I have been driving since 1985.....same shit back then, only it was books, newspapers, makeup, work docs, etc.
Now there are more idiots and a cell.....big deal
Link Posted: 8/23/2017 1:51:41 PM EST
Most common statement out of my mouth while I'm driving:

"GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR DIGITAL ASS!"
Link Posted: 8/23/2017 1:52:50 PM EST
I agree. The other day ALL of the cars first at the light, 3 lanes wide, didn't know the light turned green until the next row and beyond started honking.

Fucking brain dead people.

I find I ride my motorcycle less these days due to that very issue.

I've had more close calls in the last two years alone than in the entire 10 years previous to that.

Don't blame ya its peaked in the past few years

Yesterday I pulled up to an intersection where I have a stop sign, cross traffic doesn't. Woman coming through saw me approaching stop sign and came to a rolling stop herself, all while her face was glued to her phone texting away. She couldn't be bothered to look up from her phone so I guess she thought the safest route was to stop.

Yelling "You don't have a stop sign you stupid cunt" in a hospital parking lot is apparently frowned upon
Link Posted: 8/23/2017 2:04:41 PM EST
It really is out of control.
Link Posted: 8/23/2017 2:09:25 PM EST
And people wonder why I only drive high performance cars....

So I can evade these idiots!
Link Posted: 8/23/2017 2:09:58 PM EST
Guy crossed over into my Lane and almost hit me as I passed him yesterday. Texting of course.

My fear is when one of these dumbass drivers enevitabally hits me I will go to jail for shoving their phone up their ass.
Link Posted: 8/23/2017 2:11:49 PM EST
While it's annoying as hell, some people will only touch their phone while fully stopped at a light. I can't fault then too much for that, I guess.

There is a much bigger problem now. It has gotten much worse over the last 4 years.

Self driving cars incoming! Standby
Link Posted: 8/23/2017 2:17:14 PM EST
They also get real pissed off at you for honking at them because you highlighted how utterly brain dead stupid they are.

I think texting and driving should be a criminal offense, it is worse than dui.

At least drunk drivers are paying attention, they want to get home, they don't want the cops pulling them over... People who text and drive just don't give a fuck and aren't paying any sort of attention.

"Hey 85mph on the Interstate while texting, no big deal." Idiots.
Link Posted: 8/23/2017 2:22:55 PM EST
They have one fucking job.....to watch the light.....and they can't do it.

However, Mrs Rabinowitz doesn't want me to honk for fear of road rage violence from the dumbfuck ahead of us.

If I see an asshole talking on the phone and making dumb moves (ANY use of a cellphone while driving here is illegal), I lay on the horn so whomever they are talking too also knows they are a jackwad.

Link Posted: 8/23/2017 2:25:21 PM EST
They should make it when your phone's GPS senses a speed over 10mph it auto shuts off.

Me too. Its getting pretty bad. I've been rear ended 2 times in the last 4 months in my cars.
Link Posted: 8/23/2017 2:28:34 PM EST
Almost got clipped by one. Hands free (its a feature) and it is at least a bit better than the idiots that focus on the phones, or even worse the idiots that wear earphones. Do not get met started on motor bike tards and cycle tards.

50% of the time you have to honk at lights?

I don't believe you.
Link Posted: 8/23/2017 2:31:49 PM EST
I was nearly sideswiped by a black E Class Mercedes yesterday. When I say "nearly", I mean my mirror was over top of his mirror. I'd say it was less than 6" from contact. He yanked his car back in his own lane and you could see he was a little shaken up by the episode. He was texting/emailing. (I looked over as I noticed the car come into my lane in my peripheral vision). Very close.

Oh, did I mention the driver was my ex wife's divorce attorney?

So close to revenge.....

THIS

The ONLY time I touch my phone in my car is when parked somewhere, or on a rare occasion briefly while I'm stopped at a light. I won't touch or even look at it while I'm moving.

I would say I hear horns honking to get people moving at lights half of the time, but I do not honk at half of the lights I am at.

It really isn't a stretch, people are oblivious.

Most people just aren't very good at it.

I saw 3 accidents on the way to work just this week in atlanta. 2 on tuesday, one this morning.

All 3 were rear endings.

Matter of fact, I can't remember that last time I saw an accident that wasn't a rear ending or otherwise collision due to distraction.

I'll listen to almost any viewpoint, on any problem/issue, until I hear that word "epidemic".

At that point, I simply close up shop and move on with my hyperbole free day.

Mostly it's people playing with their cellphones but lately I've been seeing a lot of people smoking pot while driving. It's fucking crazy.

Back in the day driving home from work I use to talk on on my phone, drive, and eat a cheeseburger with the other hand while using my knee to steer. It can be done safely if you have skills.
Link Posted: 8/23/2017 2:45:49 PM EST
There is a busy intersection about a mile from me as the crow flies . There are at least 2 serious wrecks daily . You know deputies , fire trucks , amberlances and the like .

I asked a deputy I know about it and he said almost all wrecks at this intersection involved people using their phones .

At least while every idiot is stopped and texting at a light, any acceleration will leave them far behind you.  Even better if you got loud pipes too.

I'm seriously thinking of putting a train horn on my vehicle.
Link Posted: 8/23/2017 2:59:17 PM EST
Distracted drivers is why I want to install a train horn on my truck. I'm tired of people crossing the center line and nearly hitting me head on. I'd love to scare the living shit out of them and see if that wouldn't correct the behavior.

I am 56 and just returned from a 10 hour road trip. It is a much bigger problem than in the past. Multiple times i was almost sideswiped by some shit for brains on there phones.

Undoubtedly, we need more laws, right?

Right?
Link Posted: 8/23/2017 3:04:27 PM EST
How about we go back to no seat belt and no airbags and lets throw some metal dash boards back in cars.
Wonder if people would be more careful.
Link Posted: 8/23/2017 3:04:29 PM EST
Their...lol
Link Posted: 8/23/2017 3:04:46 PM EST
It's understandable why some people are slow to go at lights, I'll only use my phone while stopped at lights. Usually to txt or check for directions. On big roads there's not always a convenient place to pull over and do such things.
Link Posted: 8/23/2017 3:06:28 PM EST
I think in general peoples driving is digressing to a form of inability to operate the vehicle.

It's such a departure from my own experience that it is indeed a stretch for me to believe it.

I drive in and around one of the largest cities in the country and I don't experience anywhere near the "crisis" levels of drama some people are claiming.

Thanks for contributing to the apathy epidemic.

If you don't get worked up over the media's manufactured crisis then you're not a real American.

I hate driving these days. Some asshole almost ran me off the road the other day while staring at his phone.

Jerkoff made me spill my beer.
