Now since old people have gotten into technology and Facebook EVERYONE is staring down at their phone when driving. At least over 50% of the time I have to honk at lights because people aren't watching. I see people swerving over the road. People on one way roads unaware a car is behind them driving 5mph because they are fiddling with their fucking phone (happened to me twice today)

Most common statement out of my mouth while I'm driving:

"GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR DIGITAL ASS!"

I agree. The other day ALL of the cars first at the light, 3 lanes wide, didn't know the light turned green until the next row and beyond started honking.

Fucking brain dead people.

I find I ride my motorcycle less these days due to that very issue.

I've had more close calls in the last two years alone than in the entire 10 years previous to that.

Yesterday I pulled up to an intersection where I have a stop sign, cross traffic doesn't.  Woman coming through saw me approaching stop sign and came to a rolling stop herself, all while her face was glued to her phone texting away.  She couldn't be bothered to look up from her phone so I guess she thought the safest route was to stop.

Yelling "You don't have a stop sign you stupid cunt" in a hospital parking lot is apparently frowned upon

Guy crossed over into my Lane and almost hit me as I passed him yesterday. Texting of course.

My fear is when one of these dumbass drivers enevitabally hits me I will go to jail for shoving their phone up their ass.

While it's annoying as hell, some people will only touch their phone while fully stopped at a light. I can't fault then too much for that, I guess.

I think texting and driving should be a criminal offense, it is worse than dui.

At least drunk drivers are paying attention, they want to get home, they don't want the cops pulling them over... People who text and drive just don't give a fuck and aren't paying any sort of attention.

"Hey 85mph on the Interstate while texting, no big deal." Idiots.

They have one fucking job.....to watch the light.....and they can't do it.

However, Mrs Rabinowitz doesn't want me to honk for fear of road rage violence from the dumbfuck ahead of us.

If I see an asshole talking on the phone and making dumb moves (ANY use of a cellphone while driving here is illegal), I lay on the horn so whomever they are talking too also knows they are a jackwad.

Almost got clipped by one.  Hands free (its a feature) and it is at least a bit better than the idiots that focus on the phones, or even worse the idiots that wear earphones.    Do not get met started on motor bike tards and cycle tards.

I was nearly sideswiped by a black E Class Mercedes yesterday.  When I say "nearly", I mean my mirror was over top of his mirror. I'd say it was less than 6" from contact.  He yanked his car back in his own lane and you could see he was a little shaken up by the episode.  He was texting/emailing.  (I looked over as I noticed the car come into my lane in my peripheral vision).  Very close.

Oh, did I mention the driver was my ex wife's divorce attorney?

So close to revenge.....

THIS

The ONLY time I touch my phone in my car is when parked somewhere, or on a rare occasion briefly while I'm stopped at a light. I won't touch or even look at it while I'm moving.

I saw 3 accidents on the way to work just this week in atlanta. 2 on tuesday, one this morning.

All 3 were rear endings.

Matter of fact, I can't remember that last time I saw an accident that wasn't a rear ending or otherwise collision due to distraction.

Back in the day driving home from work I use to talk on on my phone, drive, and eat a cheeseburger with the other hand while using my knee to steer. It can be done safely if you have skills.

There is a busy intersection about a mile from me as the crow flies .   There are at least 2 serious wrecks daily . You know deputies , fire trucks , amberlances and the like .

I asked a deputy I know about it and he said almost all wrecks at this intersection  involved people using their phones .

Distracted drivers is why I want to install a train horn on my truck. I'm tired of people crossing the center line and nearly hitting me head on. I'd love to scare the living shit out of them and see if that wouldn't correct the behavior.

It's understandable why some people are slow to go at lights, I'll only use my phone while stopped at lights.  Usually to txt or check for directions.  On big roads there's not always a convenient place to pull over and do such things.

It's such a departure from my own experience that it is indeed a stretch for me to believe it.

I drive in and around one of the largest cities in the country and I don't experience anywhere near the "crisis" levels of drama some people are claiming.
