If the XM8 thing will go on, what will happen to the dismissed M16?

I kow that in USA the law says that once one thing has been classified Full Auto is F/A even if the modificated permanently to Semiauto only.

In Italy metric FAL (with FA option) are modified and can be sold on the civilian market.

Is there any chance that within the next 5 years we are going to see in Italy real M16 (like we saw Garands, M14, M1 Carbines and so on)???

Probably not.  I suspect most of the M16 series rifles would be held in reserve war stock like the M14 was held until Clinton destroyed many.  We still have several hundred thousand M14s held in reserve.  The majority of them will end  up transferred to US allies and client states.

I think it's a moot point though, the M-8 rifle is still not a done deal.

As of now, Congress has cancelled funding for the fielding of the XM-8. I guess they came to their senses and realized that there are much more important things that need to be purchased.

In the last couple of years what has happened with weapons that have been replaced is that they are either melted down or sold to an allie, such as third world countries.

no one wants the XM8, so no, you wont be seeing the M16 any time soon.

A lot are from A1's being converted to A2 confug. The Air Force redid a bunch in the last few years, and those showed up, too.
