No, don't like the idea.  Just because mine and many other son's didn't come home, guilt shouldnt be forced on non military families to give money.  Horse crap!  Our son's died so they (we) may be free, the ultimate sacrifice was for all Americans.

Yeah, I am pretty sure that once someone turns 18 they can join the military and make their own decisions. Y'know, that whole adult thing.

If my parents would've had any say in my military career, they sure as hell wouldn't have sent me into a combat zone.

I miss any soldier mail...but the times being what they are, some people cannot be trusted to sent anonymous homemade food stuffs to troops without somekind of tracking mechanism..

"We have three able-bodied, wonderful, wonderful children, all of whom are devoted to doing very, very good things around social justice; and we could not be more proud of them," said Philip Green, a local businessman who devised the fundraising idea. "We're also delighted that none of them had to serve in Iraq or Afghanistan."

The military also doesn't want most Americans. It says 75 percent of the target recruit-age population of 17- to 24-year-olds are unqualified due to health problems (mostly related to obesity), drug or alcohol histories, or too little education (no high school diploma).

There are small organizations that do it right.

My folks weren't exactly jumping for joy when I joined the infantry. That was the first "grown up" decision of my young life.

I certainly applaud them for raising money but how they are going about it seems just wrong.

Maybe if war is actually voted for in congress.  Otherwise, its not my war.

The whole reason for the vote requirement was to ensure consensus before risking our children's lives.

Anything less is someone else's war.  I have no responsibility.

Yes.  It was the last war that was justified by congress as per the Constitution.

If all of these stupid wars are meaningful, they should be able to easily obtain congressional approval.
