I was reading this article on wikipedia, and it claimed that, "One early test of electronic space-to-space warfare took place in 1963 when the United States exploded a nuclear weapon in space to test the effects of EMP." I've never heard of such a thing, and a quick Google search turned up nothing. Can anyone comfirm, deny, or provide any details?

Yes they did, I don't remember the date early 60's?, but they show the footage in the movie "Trinity and Beyond" Pretty F-ing cool.

If I remember correctly it all came under the HAARP prject in 1963, but I'm not sure

Starfish Prime is the one that knocked out powerlines and a lot of electrical stuff on Hawaii. It was a few hundred or a thousand or so kilometers away from the center.

There were many such tests.

ETA: radiochemistry nuke tests

I've seen slow mo video of a couple of the space shots.

Watching the shockwave/ionization cloud was awesome...
