I went to a small lunch counter on my break, there was probably 10 or 15 guys there in uniform. I have no idea what they were, but I'm thinking possibly National Guard?

Anyways, I sat down and picked up a copy of the local monthly communist newspaper; which put me in a terrible mood. But then I got thinking, the only difference between those guys and myself was that they would risk everything to save this place.

So as I got up to throw out my garbage, I decided the cookies on the counter looked awesome. I only had ten bucks in my wallet, which only got me 5 or 6 cookies, but they were pretty damn big anyways.

I walked up to their table, said thanks, and walked out.

Cool story I know. Maybe someone here thinks of this story if they are in a similar situation that's all.

Just the fact that somebody cares enough to say thanks is all I need. Free cookies or beer are just a bonus

I lived in Columbus, GA , for a few years after I got out of the Army. About twice a month I would have lunch at Hooter's off of exit 10. The two guys I regularly ate with and I would each try to pick up the tab of a table of Soldiers, anonomously. A few times we scored the trifecta, each of us buying a table of Soldiers lunch. Felt pretty good. Good on ya, bro.

While at drill last year, we were out at a local mexican place eating our dinner. There were 6 of us, in uniform.
There was a kind customer there who paid for all out meals.
I was thankful and humbled.
