Travolta's character in Swordfish just claimed that. Google search has turned up some guys geocities page saying it's not true, and a nutjob blog or 2 with people using that line like it is fact. Nothing on Snopes that I can find and most google results using Jefferson, shot, or treason involve his VP Aaron Burr shooting Hamilton

Ummmm no.

But there was a huge split (pretty much Fed and Anti-fed lines again) over the war of 1812.  The northeastern states actually had a convention to consider seceding...

The only person that I know of that was tried for treason during Jefferson's term was Aaron Burr, who was acquitted.

I've never heard of such a thing, and I'm sure if it was true it would be mentioned here daily.

However, Andrew Jackson did shoot someone at the White House.
