Yesterday, caught up in the heat of the sunset moment, I found a Bushy XM15E2S for $800 marked LEO Only.  Should I have waited until the next gun show?

I know you guys/gals can assemble an AR in the dark, one hand tied behind your back while being tickled...

Not a bad price... and remember, like Don Davis says, ""It's better to own a gun and not need it than to need a gun and not own it."

I don't think you get screwed at all.  Was that before sales tax, or all told?

$800 out the door for a Bushmaster doesn't seem like a bad price at all.  You could perhaps find it somewhere else for 750 or even a little less, but then you'd have to pay shipping and an FFL transfer fee.

So, you might have been able to save a few bucks if you'd looked around, but I don't think you would have saved a lot.  Plus, when you get the URGE - I'm willing to pay a little extra to have it RIGHT NOW.  I also think the LEO markings are kind of neat - since they are from a bygone era, and manufacturers will stop stemping them that way now.

As long as you bought the whole rifle and not just the lower, you did good.

Good buy, is it your first AR?  You're off to a good start if it is.

It's not my first, I bought a 20" Colt 10+ years ago.  Then a HK91, Mini 14, pistols, shotguns, etc etc. My wife and I decided to have kids, so that effectively ended my firearm adoption program.  But the wife has eased up on the 'non-essential' purchase LAW she proposed, voted, and enacted while I was at work (so I had no vote).
Anyway, fun times ahead!

Bushmaster has a pretty high retail, but their street prices are usually quite a bit lower. Still, 800 seemed to be pretty close to the going rate for postan NIB, so that is a good deal. Get out and enjoy it.

You got a decent deal.

And ignore the asshats trying to rain on your parade. I have an XM15E2 A3 lower with a Rock River chrome-barrelled upper (postban) and it's a great shooter. I paid the same for mine, and I built it from parts. The only advantage to building a gun is you can take your time ordering parts as you can afford them so as to lessen the financial burden a bit.

And anyway, like DK-Prof said, when you're ready to buy a gun, does it really matter if you could have saved a few bucks if you would have shopped around first?

ETA you would not have found a better deal at a gunshow, at least not any of the gunshows around here!
