A friend of my wifes whom she hasnt seen in 7 years called saying her son offed himself. The kid was in his 20's. I had a friend who offed himself when we were 14. I refused to go to the wake tonite because I do not believe in that bullshit. You cant quit your own life. Am I a douchebag for feeling this way or what? edit: I never met the family

nope I feel the same way the kid offed himself like a little punk. but on the other hand you could have gone to support the parents. Kids are so stupid.

While you don't agree with the way he ended his life you should at least pay respects to the family. Of course, this is depending on how much you value their friendship.

Well, you can look at it in this light. Depression is a disease not a choice of lifestyle, some people never conquer the deasies and unfortunately kill themselves.

Well, go and support you wife at least. I'm sure she'd like your support.

I had a dear friend take his own life when he was 19. I was angry, upset and felt cheated. I was pissed at him. I went to both his wake and funeral, not for me or for him. I went for his family and his sisters. -934

Well, you go to the funeral for the sake of the living, not of the dead, so if the family cared about you being there, I think you'd be being selfish. But if you've never met them, then it doesn'treally seem like an issue.

Funerals and wakes are for the living, nor the dead. Go. Sgtar15
