According to MSDNC that is....

So let me see if I have this straight. Because libertarians don't like government to do much of anything, and Detroit's government doesn't do much of anything it should be doing because its liberal big-government loving City Council is completely inept . . . JoAnn Watson = Ron Paul.

Got it.

I was not aware that the libertarians' preferred path to their utopia was to soak taxpayers to the hilt, spend it all, borrow even more, and amass so much debt that a massive municipal bureaucracy of more than 9,000 (more than 12,000 as recently as last year) comes to a standstill - still there, still collecting their salaries, but delivering no services in return. I was not aware that the libertarians' perferred path to their utopia was to get in bed with public employee unions, granting them generous wage, benefit and retirement packages such that more than 20,000 retirees are collecting pensions.

So it's not the residents' fault, yet they've consistently voted for (corrupt) Democrats for over 50 years?  This is just some act of God like hurricane Sandy?

And about the libertarian comment - I think he's confusing libertarianism with anarchy.

Corporate greed and George Bush ruined Detroit, we should spend federal tax money propping it up.

How about we just tell Detroit to go fuck itself, and deal with whatever happens?

That is absolutely sad and hilarious at the same time.

PEOPLE in GOVERNMENT caused this problem.  There is nothing libertarian about Detroit.  Quite the contrary, Detroit is a prime example of the damage that runaway government can cause.

Democrat libertarian? less government and pro-capitalist? Nope

Dem=socialist-statist
Dem=progressive-statist
Dem=Marxist-statist

and very little in between.

MSNBC's problem is they lack the requisite brain capacity to come up with a coherent thought.

That is insane. The only thing libertarian about Detroit is the drug policy.

A similar article I read boiled it up this way: "Detroit is suffering from a declining tax base which makes it unable to provide basic government services.  Conservatives want to lower tax rates and decrease spending, ergo, the loss of revenue to Detroit and it's inability to provide services is exactly what conservative policies are trying to achieve"...  or something to that effect.

You are dealing with people who are completely free of concern for understanding the actual basics of how economies and cities work.

I listen to the other side, but the more I am hearing from that side leads me to the conclusion that we are already pretty far down the road to being fucked as a country.

The people who did it are not at fault, the people who didn't do it should pay for it.

I think their problem is that ... it's detroit.

and that they care more about whinging about Zimmerman than they do about unfucking their own economy.

They won't fix anything until they get better priorities.

Idiot. Libertarian ideology is one that requires personal responsibility. This is something that is lacking on both the governmental level, and the individual level. How many people in Detroit are receiving some form of government aid? Detroit has the wrong ratio governmental services, and has all of about nothing to do with libertarian anything.

What?  You think the assholes that ran what should have been one of the world's richest cities into the fucking ground would actually take responsibility and admit that collectivism is doomed to catastrophic failure?

No, point the finger and try to place the blame on the few producers who have held up the sorry edifice of shit for decades

Bail out the banks = didn't like that idea.

Bail out Detroit = don't like the idea, either.

Hell........it's gonna happen.

Absolutely disgusting. The residents of Detroit are no more responsible for its condition than someone caught in a hurricane?

Ratner the rat! All these people do is lie. The democratic marxist party is the antithesis to personal responsibility.

Bail em out 100% and write them a check for an extra $20 billion. In 5-10 years they'll be $20 billion in the hole and looking for another handout.

Detroit is a shithole.  I grew up in and out of that city.  Clinton did a lot to destroy that city as well.  All of SE Michigan actually.  When he put measures into place for certain ethnic groups to be able to buy homes even though they obviously had no means to afford it, he killed that market.  I remember the section 8 housing (projects) in Detroit that were new in the 90's.  They were nicer than my base housing in the Army.  That same section 8 housing is in ruins today.....  When you give someone something for nothing........  Detroit is a racist cancer.  I remember applying to the PD back in the day when I got outta the Army.  The recruiter at the time, then Lt. Godby, told me that they "weren't looking for any white folks."  AFAIC, that city is getting what it had coming to it.  Kawame and his wifes red Navigator, the parties at the Managuian mansion complete with dead strippers, etc......  Badge of Honor is an excellent book worth reading!

The thing is no one let Detroit go bankrupt, it IS bankrupt.

It's simple math really and it's been a long time coming.  I believe Detroit is an excellent test model for what government does.

The United States started out with a very small central government, and a lot of individual freedom, which of course required individuals to exercise personal responsibility.  This nation with a small government and maximum freedom was very successful, it grew wealthy.  As wealth was created by individuals, the government class figured out new ways to extract MORE from it.  The government class, or political class, really doesn't create any value for society. Thus, they do not get wealthy unless they convince people they're needed. That's what people in government do well.  That's why they create wars, and campaigns.  The war on terror being the latest, but the war on drugs, poverty, illiteracy are well established government growers.

The most successful free society, with a small government, has grown the largest government in history.

We're spending almost $60k per year on average for government (local, state, federal).  SIXTY thousand dollars per household each and every year.  That's not sustainable.  Take a good look at Detroit, it's where America is headed.

Expect more hit pieces against libertarians over the next few years. Both sides need a new dog to kick.

Both parties are failing this country and they know it.
