Ok Folks. I have been a lurker here for far too long without contributing anything to the community. I became hooked on this site with the 9/11 threads and have since become a 5th degree sufferer of EBR disease.
It turns out that I am in LA this week for business and saw a small scale "demonstration" of local "students" waving mexican flags. I didnt know what it was about untill I got back to the hotel and turned on the news. Apparently they are protesting the immigration bill that has passed the House and is now to move on to the Senate. Arfcom is generally very quick to pounce on these things and I have to say that I am suprised that there has not been any commentary yet. Hence my post.
I found a couple video links on CNN covering these events, but that is about it. To me, these domonstrations are nothing more than arguments for sepratism. The protesters argument: "the immigration reform will unfairly discriminate against illigals". Did you get that... "disriminate against illigals"! Maybe I am not intelligent enough to understand how going after "illigals" is a bad thing. Personally, I wouldnt care if they were from Mars. If they are here illigaly they have no recourse to our system of governance, bill of rights, social welfare programs, etc.. What possible greivance can they rightfully have when they have basically stolen the "right" to assemble, the right to address govt. for greivance, etc. On top of this, the protesters seem to be openly pushing for sepratism with all of their waving of Mexican flags. These protesters do not, and probably never did, want to become American citizens. What they seem to want is all of the benifit of living in a free and prosperous society without any of the responsibility and obligation that comes with it.
I apologize for this lenglthy rant on my first post here at Arfcom. I just had to get this off my chest before I go out into this wonderfull American, er, azatlan city, to do my work. BTW, this is the best site on the net!
