Democrats have clear ideals
There seems to be a common theme among several of the letters your readers send in: The Democrats need to articulate a positive plan for the nation's future, not simply position themselves as the anti-Bush party. Let me answer this specious logic with a metaphor: If a train driven by a mad conductor is hurtling down the tracks out of control, wouldn't you first try to stop the train, or would you develop an improved mass-transit strategy first?
The Democratic Party has stood for a number of well-known principles for a very long time, including concern for the middle class, protection of civil liberties, and a desire to promote truly equal opportunity for all Americans.
Sure, Democratic politicians are prone to some of the same failings as Republican politicians, but can anyone truly say that they don't understand what they're voting for when they vote for a Democrat?
