Hi all,
I work at AOL. We have a series of conference rooms that are usable by groups such as the GOP, DLC, the Red Cross, etc. Well, right now, as I am typing this, the Democratic Leadership Counsil is having a planning meeting here. I happened to go by the auditorium where they are meeting and on the display screen in the front of the room was "Gun Control Priorities"
There were a couple of items listed but the main one in huge bold letters was about the 1994 semi auto ban. The speaker was very emotional about the subject and she outlined a plan of attack to ensure the ban is continued in 2004.
Starting early next year, there will be a letter writing campaign to flood Congress and the White House with letters urging the ban be made permanent. Along with this, they are planning on funding a series of commercials next year to garner support for anti gun candidates for Congress to help pass the ban.
Another aspect they are looking at is a nationwide ballistic fingerprint database for all firearms. They know that it won't work, but they want it anyway.
The last thing I saw was a proposed ban on any semi automatic handgun that is capable of taking magazines that hold more than 5 rounds.
This is a call to arms everyone. We need to start contacting Congress and letting them know our stance.
The gun control proponents are scared right now. They mentioned that they don't think the semi auto ban will be renewed and they are desparately trying to find a way to overcome it. Our fight is about to get nasty.
