Had oral surgery on tuesday removing one tooth from the gum underneath the bottom front teeth.  Been close to a week and it still hurts like hell.  The pain meds are working but only for a few hours then they go away.

To make it worse now I'm getting some major gas pains.

Call the oral surgeons office if you haven't already done so.  You shouldn't be in that much pain that you require pain medication after a week.

Go mix it up with a K9. Guaranteed you won't notice the pain in your mouth.

Call the oral surgeon and make sure an infection hasn't set in.

Hope you feel better soon - get it checked

To me, nothing worse than dental pain, I'd rather have a smashed toe (not that I would know )

Yeah that's pretty long. At least call the guy...

As for the gas, etc, you are probably getting constipated from the pain meds. You will need to do something about that if it is becoming a problem or you will be in for more pain.

I guessed the gas was from all the mac and cheese and mcdonald's big breakfasts.

I don't think it's infected but my friend just told me if I get a mouth infection then I'm gonna die

Went back to the oral surgeon today and learned I have a dry socket.  They packed the area with this minty snuff looking stuff.  Feel better!

Good for you.  There's few pains worse than a dry socket.

What's a dry socket? Is that when the hole from the extracted tooth does not close and heal?

yeah basically instead of healing over, the whole heals down to the bone and then has to rebuild all the tissue. Its like letting a cut that goes to the bone heal open instead of trying to stitch it. I had two dry sockets you'll get through it

It is when the blood clots are prematurely taken out of a socket.  The tissue and nerves inside are exposed directly to the enviroment and it is extremely painful.  That is why the dentist tells you not to suck on anything or swish your mouth out for a few days, so that they clots can take hold and begin the healing process.

I had two dry sockets when I had my wisdom teeth done all at once.  That resulted in 8 days of heavenly Percodan!  ...and on the ninth day I had the worst drug withdrawl headache ever!

I'm sorry.  I couldn't help but laugh.

Seriously, have you considered drinking a little bit of something?
