Melatonin seems to work for me. You can pick it up at wally world or any corner pharmacy OTC. YMMV

Yupp...I've been suffering from insomnia since 2004/2005. Occasionally I'll get a solid nights sleep, but even then I wake up tired.

I have to sleep when it's light out so it's been a strugle for me to get good sleep.  Lately I seem to get a few hours of half asleep half awake at the same time. Weird thing is I even dream while doing this, it's strange.

I have it big time. I work my ass off spring through fall 10, 12, 14+ hour days outside in the heat but we are off in the winter. It's like my body is so used to doing so much, and now noting....leads to me being up right now posting on ARFCOM at 4:09AM Good thing I like it here

I am typically an insomniac, at least several nights a week, now I get to deal with rotator cuff surgery and recovery which requires sleeping in a damn sling... Oh to sleep...

Been there done that. 2.5 years after the surgery I still have to put a pillow under my left shoulder when I attempt to sleep

Like the other posters stated, try melatonin and figure out the dosage that works for you. Unfortunately, my problem is not falling asleep but waking up around 1am and not being able to go back to sleep. Sucks, and I don't think melatonin can help with that.

I've never had any real insomnia, but I always sleep like a baby if I get a good workout that day.

A Lortab chased by a couple of Scotch's works wonders! The pop a Melatonin just before you nod off to keep you there.
Oh, and if you turn off the internet porn, it's easier to get to sleep too!

Jim and Coke?  Seems like eliminating the caffeine would be a good first step.  I have never slept worse than a night after large quantities of Jack & Cokes or Redbull & Vodkas.  Heart pounding out of your chest, residual anxiety increasing as the alcohol wears off, horrible.

Went through this a couple of years ago and it was driving me nuts. Everytime I'd almost drift off my mind would snap me back to being awake. I started thinking about any changes I'd made to diet, routine, or drugs I'd been taking and came up with a culprit: Zantac antacids. I'd started taking maximum strength Zantac OTC for heartburn about a week earlier, and I discovered one of its possible side effects was insomnia. I stopped taking Zantac and within a few days I was sleeping like a baby.

OP, can you think of an y changes you may have made like this? Any new drugs, foods, or a change in routine besides not being able to sleep?
