Not far. All of the owner-operators that haul for us are spending $600 (on average) for a single round-trip to Biloxi, MS from Spartanburg, SC--a 9 hour drive.

Yeah, there was "extra" effort involved there.

This last tank(s) full got me about 950 miles...

I've seen quite a spread in diesel prices lately.  I filled up with B20 on Saturday at DFW Biodiesel for $3.05(I think B100 was cheaper yet), then saw some #2 at a station in Euless for... $3.49!  I'm in Amarillo now, and there's one truck stop with diesel for $3.02, most are around $3.09+

I've heard some stories about gas stations and truck stops in the southeast getting rationed fuel, and only selling to major customers, or only selling limited amounts of fuel.  Between the current shortages and the home heating oil season kicking in, looks like it could get ugly... er, more ugly.  I'm just glad I don't have to feed a monster like that Freightliner!

Yep, increased diesel prices have been eating into my profit for about a year and a half now. Especially for the last few months.

The higher the diesel goes, the more rewards points I get from a certain gas station chain, already have 75gal free. Liberty only holds about 15gal,so I usually get a friend to go with me to put in his car/truck.

A little off topic, but would you truckers buy biodiesel consistently if it were available roadside in convenient locations, and at around 3.00 per gallon?

If my truck would run on cowshit for less money than foreign oil, I'd buy it.

I bought diesel yesterday afternoon for 2.99 a gallon at diamond shamrock in Rosenberg.  Some people say that their diesel is not as good because is is lacking additives.  I thought it was all no.2 diesel.  Exactly what  are we buying when we pull up to a pump that does not say no. 2 diesel?

Amazing how far down in quality Freightliner has gone! Remember the old FLD? Damn,it was built like a tank, never had a problem. Century? A/C J-pipe broken/compressor bad/leaks inside the cab, which shorted out the electrics/windshield that were magnets for rocks,PITA to replace,as it is glued in/wierd handling in the wind/dash-interior parts falling apart/on a cold day,hit the door just right=unlocked truck/little bulbs for dash hard to find. On the plus side,a VERY smooth ride, damned good stereo(when it worked)and great fuel mileage(6-8 with average load)

Diesel fuel in the Los Angeles-area is about $3.25/gal and rising.  We're switching over to the cleaner less sulphur fuel.

It should all be #2, but sometimes there are additives in it to raise cetane, prevent gelling(in the winter), clean injectors, or lubricate better.  But diesel fuel is a crapshoot anyway, you never know what you're gonna get.  That's why I usually use an additive like Howes or PowerService.

Sometimes I can tell the difference in my car depending on where I fill up.  It will run a little louder, or sometimes it might smoke.  Can also tell a difference in mileage, but it seems to be the opposite of what other people say, so who knows.

But I can't really comment on current fuel quality because I think I have a plugged intake or something right now(or maybe just air filter) and my mileage started dropping before the hurricanes.  And I also started uising biodiesel about when Katrina hit.  So I can't make a fair comparison.
