I'm not a guy who gets sappy. Fuck, I didn't cry when my grandparents died back in January. Didn't cry when I dragged my body 3 miles back to my car in April. Didn't even cry when I got the hospital bill afterwards... but my best friend...
It is always hard losing a best friend. You aren't even gone yet and I'm already missing you. How we spend the next few days together, well that is entirely up to you. No matter how hard things got, I could always turn to you to bring me up and make me smile. Always you, even when no one else was there. It is your unconditional love, company, and willingness to sporadically go and fuck shit up that I will miss. You taught me somethings that no one else could have taught me, that the most simple things in life are often the most enjoyable, that sometimes playing it stupid works the best, that truly everything is edible, no matter the taste or consequence, and that money isn't everything, even though if it was I would rob a bank if that's what it would take to keep you around. Sometimes life is more complicated than that though. It's gonna be hard not having you around the holidays, but know that I will eat the shit out of the turkey and ham for you I love you B, and I'm gonna miss you.

Really, really sorry for your loss but just looking at your pictures, you guys both gave each other one hell of a life together.
My oldest boxer boy turns 13 next week. He's doing wonderful and still very much like a puppy but I know that can't last forever
Never forget your best buddy but there's always more that need to be rescued from shitty people and bad situations. I'd have a whole heard if I could pull it off!! Boxers and just such a joy to have as family companions!! Misty now, must go to bed... |

Oh man, I hate this part, and I am so so sorry it's your turn. The missing starts while they're still here because they leave a little bit at a time and hang on no matter how it hurts to try and stay with you. One day I noticed my Akita was literally torturing herself on feeble hips trying to get to the door to go out so as not to pee on the rug, because she was a good girl, FOR ME. That's when I knew it was the purest act of love to send her on her way.
No fear, no guilt for you. My shining star, along with so many others, is waiting for yours on the other side. Godspeed to your Dag.

She's off roaming around the neighborhood right now, doing whatever the fuck she pleases. Fetch, a short hike, and steaks tomorrow. Then I'm gonna take her a little up north for her to play in the snow (she fucking loves snow), since we haven't got anything considerable down here yet.

Sorry to hear that, OP. Good looking dog and sounds like he was a great family member. My wife and I are facing the same prospect with our 12 year old Golden. She's got bone cancer and we're just doing our best to manage her pain now. We're hoping she'll be ok through Christmas, but you just never know. It's getting doggone dusty in here.
Whoever coined the phrase "man's best friend" was a genius. I'll be thinking about you and your pup in the upcoming days, OP. Enjoy your time with him. |
