Here's an OH-58 scout helicopter that took a shit_load of ground fire over Iraq, and made it back to base.

I see someone finally decided to open up on one of those "black helicopters".

Which one of the local tinfoil-hat crowd was it?

And it made it home? Or was it on the ground? If it was flying and made it home I wanna know who made that helicoptor.

So........is this the chopper from NOLA? The one that never got shot at?
Link Posted: 9/29/2005 7:42:10 AM EDT
The pilot wasn't hit?
Link Posted: 9/29/2005 7:42:56 AM EDT
Whats the story behind this?

This is all I know. This was all that accompanied the pics when I got them:

I was just cleaning out some of my pics and found these. I had gotten them from someone a year or so ago.

Look, they can't even fix it because of what's painted there lol

It is an Army OH58D that was caught on the ground in a rocket attack. It's an older picture from a few months ago in Iraq.

OH-58 made by Bell?
Don't see the MMS anywhere, but it could have been removed for maintenance.

That makes more sense. There's no way they could make it back with the damage to the rotor assembly.

New Orleans rescue squad?

Looks more like shrapnel than small arms. I bet it was damaged in some type of explosion, mortar attack or something.

But but someone said its safe to fly over Iraq and shoouldnt consider it a combat mission to fly over there.

I'm going to agree that a rocket probably landed nearby...

Spooky

Most likely.
An SA-7 wouldn't spread the damage over such a large area and the "insurgents" don't have any AA missiles larger than that.

No way it was in the air. It got hit from the side.
Link Posted: 9/29/2005 11:46:42 AM EDT
Look at the pic of the rotor damange (from inside the transmission bay).
No way a Kiowa blade would stand up to that damage while spinning.
Link Posted: 9/29/2005 11:47:34 AM EDT
those are some BIG holes. Bigger than bullet holes, so I'm going to agree that it was hit on the ground or by some SERIOUS shrapnel.

"Scouts Out!"

I crewed the Alpha and Charlie models, but still the Delta models hold a place in my heart as well.
