Damn, I love those multi-hour epics! So, for when you have a whole weekend to blow, and want to watch a real long story, which one of these would you choose? Or maybe the Star Wars saga would do...BB is heavy; LOTR is more escapist.

There are some others out there I remember: Winds of War/War and rememberance were very well done if I remember right. Got any others?

I admit that I've never seen an episode of Band of Brothers.  Part of the reason is that I have no TV.

I am a huge fan of the LOTR books and almost as big a fan of the movies (except I didn't think TTT was very good, and one of my gripes, which is one of the superficial ones, is WTF were they thinking using crappy claymation for the Ent attack?  Plus, in the book they diverted the river, they didn't break a dam.  And who builds their huge tower and tunnels right below a huge, crappy dam?), so I'd probably watch them.

You can play the DVDs on your computer can't you?
I expected David Schwimmer to say something funny, but nope not one funny line, this was one piece of serious acting for him.

In the best tradition of ARFCOM, I would say get both.
Band of Brothers

Band of Brothers.

You need to wait for the Extended Edition of ROTK to come out before you can do the LOTR trilogy.

That's WIN/WIN

Flip a coin

Heads - B.O.B

Tails - LOTR

Hope that helps

I meant the extended versions of LOTR, of course! So I'll have to wait for Return of the King afore I can do this...the pony versions just don't cut it!

Band of Brothers

HOWEVER, YOU ARE REQUIRED TO HAVE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING PRESENT DURING THE VIEWING:

WWII era firearm you personally own (1911A1, Garand, etc)

WWII uniforms, souvenirs, etc.

Photo album from family member's time in service during the war.

This completes the experience.

Why choose, I'd watch both!

Band of Brothers, in my mind, is the greatest war movie (in reality it IS.. a 13 hour movie) ever made.  However I dont know that you can compare LOTR and Band of Brothers.

For me it takes a certain frame of mind.. to watch all of the LOTR movies.. because they are a bit drawn out and can put you to sleep if you arent careful.

Both are excellent in thier own right.. I would have to follow up and say +1 to BOTH
