westy1080 (13 posts) Fri Dec-29-06 08:55 PM Original message Now tell me this isn't all planned ahead of time First there were the deaths of James Brown and Gerald Ford. Now there is Saddam's execution. This had to be planned ahead of time to take away from the first 100 hours of the new Democratic Congress with the first female Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. |

1. death has never been scientifically proved to be "Actual" Punishment of any kind Edited on Fri Dec-29-06 08:59 PM by sam sarrha it is only a Blood Sacrifice when politicians promise to execute prisoners for votes if elected, knowing full well Capital Punishment is not a deturant to crime and has never detoured crime in any way anywhere at any time in history.. |
LuckyTheDog (1000+ posts) Fri Dec-29-06 09:07 PM Original message Saddam execution: Think about it Today or tomorrow, the U.S. will have shown the world that it assumes the right to invade any country, depose its government and execute its leader -- even if the country in question has not attacked us and poses no military threat.
Why is that a good thing for our long-term security? Does any one at all NOT see how such a thing could bite us in the butt some day? Saddam needed killing. But not by us. It was not for us to do it.
And yes, I know that we'll be handing him over to the Iraqis to do the actual deed (cowards that we are) and that we arranged for Iraqis to be the face of the kangaroo court we set up. But even an idiot can see through that stuff. |
SHRED (1000+ posts) Fri Dec-29-06 09:09 PM Original message No one will be happier than Rummy Saddam knows way too much for the Bush Crime Family to have him talking. |

democrank (1000+ posts) Fri Dec-29-06 08:11 PM Original message Tonight must be erection central for Junior Bush WARNING: GRAPHIC
Man,oh man! Junior must be strutting around The Ranch tonight like a domestic violence perpetrator who finally succeeded in flinging his battered wife to the floor. Nothing matches the thrill of putting a weakling to their knees and standing over them. "Got the car keys right here, bitch. You ain`t goin` nowhere."
Finally, a sweet victory for the little pipsqueak. Daddy`s bad boy gets a name for himself...all by himself...for a change. Now that`s cause for a giant Texas celebration. Bring on the salsa, Laura. Junior is a hot shot tonight! Only took the death or maiming of about 25,000 U.S. soldiers and a few extra billion dollars. But, the soldiers knew what they were getting into and Wall Street is aflame with success. All is not lost. No sense in counting dead Iraqis because they don`t count. Just put them in the War Damage column. Heck, according to Junior, historians are still stuck on President #1 so it will be eons before they start on 43. In the meantime we can party hearty because we`re going to celebrate a killing tonight. The hanging may well make things worse, but at least we get to cheer for Junior as he gets revenge for Saddam`s role in 9-11. By tomorrow, we can go to eBay and bid on an I-WATCHED-AN-EXECUTION-AND-ALL-I-GOT-WAS-THIS-TEE-LOUSY-SHIRT.
To hell with the Gandhi types and their nutty peace talk. We`re a can-do crowd with a mini nuke surprise around every corner. We`re the deciders. We get to invade. We get to occupy. We get to kill.
It will be a short stretch to assume You Tube will eventually have Saddam dangling by his throat, maybe even before Junior attends church on Sunday with his adoring wife and his next bag of tricks. |
If I see an image of Saddam's corpse, I am thinking of declaring myself stateless You know what I am talking about, we've seen it several times before, the disturbing images of Uday Hussein, Qusay Hussein, and Al-Zarqawi laying on a table, eyes closed, it us war propaganda.
Sure, they were evil, but these images are disturbing and immoral.
And it's beneath us, it's the equivalent of putting heads on pikes or us doing the medieval practice of putting the bodies of the executed out on display (In reality, that's exactly what we are doing).
Is this how low we have sunk in Bush's America? If we have, then I don't want to a part of it anymore.

Sydnie (1000+ posts) Fri Dec-29-06 09:23 PM Original message If we are going to execute Saddam for "death and rape" of Iraqi citizens, should we demand less for the members of our military that have already pled guilty to committing the same crimes in Haditha?
I am having a hard time saying that we should apply any different punishment to them that we appear to be demanding of Saddam and I am not necessarily in "support" of the death penalty (although I know of one case personally that I have no problem applying that to).
Should these soldiers that are found guilty or plead guilty to the same crimes be treated any differently? What message will that send to the world?
