In a letter sent to parents earlier this week, the principals of
Dunbar High School and McKinley Technology Education Campus noted an
increase in "inappropriate behavior,” including fights along the route
from the two schools to the NoMa-Gallaudet and Rhode Island Avenue Metro
stations.

The campuses of Dunbar and McKinley are less an a mile apart; the
NoMa-Gallaudet station is the closest Metro station to both schools.

Both high schools currently start their regular school days at 8:45 a.m. and end at 3:15 p.m.

Beginning Monday, McKinley will start and end school 10 minutes
earlier (8:35 a.m. to 3:05 p.m.). Dunbar High School will start and
school 10 minutes later (8:55 a.m. to 3:25 p.m.).

What, they think the kids from one school will get bored waiting the 20 minutes for the other school to get out?

Let's just arm them to the teeth and let them settle once and for all.

It's DC, any collateral damage is a PLUS!

With the attention span kids have these days?  Likely 10 minutes too long.

Nothing new, for the safety of the visiting fans way back in the Seventies, the rich and vibrant high schools in our NoVa football district had their home games held on Saturday mornings Instead of Friday evenings .

You mean they don't have after school jobs to get to or homework to do?

School shouldn't be mandatory past like 5th grade and then they can just expel the bad kids and let them work.

As a former school resource officer from a very low income school district, I can tell you the following about how to make schools safer and better for all children that want to learn.

1.  The main problem are schools cannot or are willing to expell gang members, drug dealers, armed robbers, those that constantly disrupt class, problem cases, and general pieces of shit that those who would never make it in a private school (no matter what they paid) or qualify for a pick and choose charter school. Fir the ignorant, public schools have no choice but to harbor the lowest human forms. If they are prison bound, they are.

2.  Shitty teachers need to be fired.  My wife is a teacher. There's a lot of shitty teachers.   Performance paid teaching pay is an incentive for teachers in high income areas, but not low income schools.  Lets just say we can base your income off of low educated, unmotivated people, I get to throw at you.  Oh yeah, power from the bottom up. But seriously, there are a lot of shitty teachers that need to be fired. Teacher evaluations are okay, but can be misleading as the teacher gets notice. Administration sitting in on lessons can make a teacher improve in the moment of observation only. Thus a false tale. Video and audio in the classroom is the only true solution.

That's about it. Other than hold shitty kid's parents to jail, fire shitty teachers, expell the shitty trash, this is where we will be for now on.
