As a former school resource officer from a very low income school district, I can tell you the following about how to make schools safer and better for all children that want to learn.
1. The main problem are schools cannot or are willing to expell gang members, drug dealers, armed robbers, those that constantly disrupt class, problem cases, and general pieces of shit that those who would never make it in a private school (no matter what they paid) or qualify for a pick and choose charter school. Fir the ignorant, public schools have no choice but to harbor the lowest human forms. If they are prison bound, they are.
2. Shitty teachers need to be fired. My wife is a teacher. There's a lot of shitty teachers. Performance paid teaching pay is an incentive for teachers in high income areas, but not low income schools. Lets just say we can base your income off of low educated, unmotivated people, I get to throw at you. Oh yeah, power from the bottom up. But seriously, there are a lot of shitty teachers that need to be fired. Teacher evaluations are okay, but can be misleading as the teacher gets notice. Administration sitting in on lessons can make a teacher improve in the moment of observation only. Thus a false tale. Video and audio in the classroom is the only true solution.
That's about it. Other than hold shitty kid's parents to jail, fire shitty teachers, expell the shitty trash, this is where we will be for now on.
