The time to buy gold was when it was cheap.

Back in the '70s, Tom Snyder had a guest on the Tomorrow Show talking about the enduring value of gold.  The guy said, "Tom, a hundred years ago you could ride into town with a $20 gold piece, buy yourself a first rate suit of clothes and a first class dinner.  Today, Tom, with that same $20 gold piece, you still could."

Gold is a fiat money, too.  Its just harder to expand the supply of gold than it is to expand the supply of bank notes.

In a shtf situation, tho, no one cares about fiat money.  People care about what they can eat, drink, or otherwise practically use.
