Welp, she's looking @ wedding dresses, and my long years of freedom are coming to an end. Given that we met through ARFCOM, and my ring finger is .750" in diameter, FW_wife has consented to a functional gas block wedding ring for me.
So how much can we cut this down, and maintain the ability to drill & pin it on a rifle? Obviously, we cut the bottom part in a V and cut the threaded holes off. Round the bottom. How much can we cut off the top? It doesn't need to be solid over the roll pin. Do we need a solid loop of steel over the top of the gas port? The ends will be trimmed just shy of the roll pin and the gas port. I've thought about stainless steel, but I understand that bluing will degrade over time to a brown - and can be restored by boiling in vinegar? We'll have to have the parkerizing off unless someone knows a source of blued gas blocks. If I need to do a bad drawing in MS Paint, I will. If someone's got a nice dimensional drawing they can post, that would be helpful. ETA: Here ya go. Red is what would be removed: Attached File |

In on this man. Mine is 316 stainless and I had it made 9mm wide. I thought mine was cool. This is a baller idea.

I predict an emergency trip to the hospital to remove said gas block.

Why do you need to be able to pin it to a barrel?
You're not going to wear it? |
|
|
Especially if the screws are fully inserted! I know, I know, he said he would remove them, but he would lose the ability to actually mount it to a barrel properly. |

It's not going to be practical to have a functional gas block be wearable as a ring.
The best option if you absolutely had to do so, would be to use a very cut down FSB. It's an extremely bad idea to wear a ring which would be indestructible to tools available to emergency medical personnel to remove it. |

You're not going to wear it? He's going to pin it to his finger. That would be painful. It still needs to keep the ability to be drilled & pinned in order to be functional. I will wear it, and I expect once it's cut down, it'll be about as comfortable as my Aggie class ring on my other ring finger. It will be taller, however, so any ideas on how to keep it from catching on stuff is helpful. As for pics of FW_wife, I think there's some in Jeff's memorial thread. As for cutting it down & keeping it (theoretically) functional, I think it can be done. Gas blocks don't need to be as long as they are, nor does the entire end of the gas tube need to be enclosed. If it were used, it would probably leak, given the amount of material removed from it - so we'd just need a larger gas port in the bbl, to keep our theoretical use alive. I tried to get her to agree to one w/ rails & a bayonet lug, so I could have a knife AND da' Beemz mounted, but she said no. |

Screw metal bands
I am going to swap out my gold one for a silicon ring pretty soon |
|
Seems like it will be uncomfortable due to the gas tube channel bump.
The set screws will pinch as well. |

I need an MS paint drawing to help me envision this. Thankyou in advance my good man.

All that work and you are using an aero precision gas block?
Just wear this one without modifying it. 2A Primary Arms Gas Block |

At the risk of encouraging this behavior that I think is incredibly ill-advised...

Brooding. Redemptive. And even the bad guys cooperate. Don't care whose gas block I use, as long as it's parkerizing that can be stripped, or it comes blued. No bayonet lug. I asked. Lemme see if I can find a diagram & mark it up in MS Paint. BRB. |

Just get a standard front slight base and cut as indicated. Many did this to create low profile gas blocks before they became so widely available. |

Gamma, that would work, but then it's not centered. Hang on, found a diagram from Crane, supposedly, will show you what I mean.
Attached File Ok, on the diagram below, the red shows what will be removed: Attached File |
