I am trying to work out a deal on some ammo. Including 1 case (1K rounds) of Black Hills 77 grain (SMK) Blue Box .223 ammo.

Can someone tell me what the current value is? Approximately. I load most of my ammo, but I think it was about .65-.70 Cents per round prior to the recent panic. I cant find any for sale to get a reasonable fair current value.

So, I come to GD. Thanks.

I'll start

$87 bucks.

I ordered some in January 2012 from Triad Tactical for 33.44/50 plus shipping. It was available elsewhere at the time for rather more, I think $40-45 cents per round per box at Midway. Triad is out of stock, now $36.16/50. No idea what the panic price is.

Crazy accurate in my 20" Stealth upper.

I have a bunch of boxes but I bought it several years ago. I think I paid around $20.00 per box.
Last time I looked it was around $34.00 per box a couple years ago. This is Midway pricing.
I keep finding boxes of it around the house. Every time I ordered something from Midway, I got a couple of boxes.
Its nice stuff. I shoot it in my Rem.700 PSS.

Sounds fair in todays market.
Seriously though, I got a case of 500 for around $330 shipped earlier this year.

Thanks for the info. That is about what I recall. Around $650/$700 per case shipped.

And, what little I have shot of it, shot phenomenally. I only use it for extended range, and need the heavy bullet. Appreciate the info.

With nothing in stock, it is difficult to determine accurate current pricing. Cant find any Blue Box for sale to see what the panic numbers are.

I priced some at $36 or so for 50 rounds, right before the panic. If you were trying to figure a pre-panic price for that ammo, I'd say $750 or so would be accurate, shipping and all.

I was actually going to buy some MK262 seconds and said 'meh, I'll wait a few weeks, since I won't be shooting before summer anyway'. That was a mistake.

LOL, yes, putting stuff off until after Christmas was a poor tactical decision. We all did it.

And yes, normal pricing was around $700 plus shipping. It was never exactly cheap, but I am wanting the best stuff I can get so I am going this route. I probably wont shoot it for a long time as I have a lot of 77smk's to load first, but I like having more if the chance presents itself. Hell, it is not exactly easy buying the 77 match kings right now.

It was $1.10 for seconds BEFORE the panic. I think ammunitiontogo had it at that price....could be wrong.

Mk 262 is 5.56 though. Slightly different stuff. I have about ~7/800 rounds of actual mk262. Plan to chrono this .223 side by side from my 16" Recce and see the difference once I get this Blue Box.

Mk262 was. That stuff has always been stupid pricey. I have some and like it, but prefer my handloads.

I may trade my Mk262 off actually.

Earlier this month (yes, this month) I watched 75-grain 5.56 TAP sit in stock for around $195 per 200 for several days, then they finally sold it all. In hindsight, I should have bought more for SD/HD ammo, even though it's supposedly not as accurate as MK262 (I have never shot MK262, but TAP is pretty accurate in the rifle I have benchrested it in).

M855 is going for a buck a round.

I sold a case of Q3131 for $1k.

Neither of those is on par with BH 77gr. SMKs.

If I were you I would ask $2k for a case and see what happens.

I am buying it, not selling it.

Although for $2K, I'd ship it this week.

Oh...

Well in that case, I guess if you can get it for a buck a round you're doing good. A lot of people don't know about the current demand and lack of supply though. Maybe offer $750.

Hell of a time to be buying ammo, man.

The Mk 262 Mod 1 round (77 gr. cannelured SMK) retails for about a buck a round. It's not as quick to come by now as it was
a couple of months ago but being premium ammo its price hasn't really risen that much. It's the cheap stuff that is sold out for
years (almost) and the prices have gone insane.

I'd say you can probably get a case of BHA ordered and delivered faster today (and maybe cheaper) than if you ordered any
of the more common favorite blasting ammo. (Win or Fed white box, PMC, etc)

I wouldn't pay more than a buck a round and I'd only pay that for Black Hills premium stuff.

No, I agree. I am getting it fair enough that I pulled the trigger.

I would not pay 2K for it. At least not yet.

Correct, but this is the Blue Box .223. Still pricey, but not Mk262 pricey. Although, I will bet you (And confirm it as soon as this weekend, hopefully) that the Blue Box will shoot every bit as good as my real Mk262 out to ~600 yards. At least that has been my previous experience.

ETA- Also, I am not as confident as you on availability of any of the Black Hills 77 grain ammo. I know a couple guys that always have had it, as long as I have done business with them and both have been out for a month, or more. And the one to whom I spoke, having just returned from SHOT, said they told him MAYBE April/May, he may get a small shipment.

MK 262 was back in stock at triad tactical for 52 bucks a box a few days ago, sold out again.

However I haven't seen match ammo price really skyrocket because the tards caught unprepared don't really know much beyond 'xm193'

Sheesh. You're probably right, but damn if I can find a single place with a single round of 77 grain ammo, much less BH.

You're probably right. I handload to approximate Mk 262 specs but the difference is that I'm not using the special temperature invariant powder that
the real Mk 262 Mod 1 load uses, which delivers consistent chamber pressure and velocity even when the chamber is hot and cooking rounds up to as much
as 300 degrees F.

If I knew which powder that was and could get it, I WOULD. I can't see why anybody wouldn't want ammo that shoots consistently regardless of temperature.

I agree, but I have given up trying to match it. I mean, I can match the velocity and come ups but it is like running the same 1/4 time in a Mustang as a Vette.

Yes, they use 1x brass. But its good stuff.

Hell, I have loaded plenty of 6-7x range pick up brass. Into high quality rounds.

The BH Blue Box is premium ammo as far as I am concerned. And its price and lack of availability always seems to validate that.
Link Posted: 1/21/2013 8:00:35 PM EDT
Screw it.

I cant find a single listing on the whole web where someone has sold a case of what I bought it the past month.

I am satisfied with what I got. I feel good just adding a case of quality 77 grain ammo at anything close to a reasonable price in the current climate.
