Our medical campus has a policy of notifying students and employees of any crimes that take place on campus.  Here's part of the email I just received:

At approximately 5:30 p.m. on Friday, 18 August  2006, an individual affiliated with the university was approached by two males in an old, red sports car.  After asking directions, they displayed a knife and demanded her purse.  The woman ran from the scene, was not followed and was not hurt.

Granted, it's pretty hot down here in Texas, but you have to be fairly lazy when you can't even step out of the air conditioning to take a woman's purse.  I guess stupidity and laziness have a way of keeping the crime they create in check.

Of course, what pisses me off is that, even here in Texas, the woman can't legally carry a CCW to defend herself.  Being that the campus is made up of several hospitals and a medical school, you'd probably be doubly screwed if caught carrying.

The best places for a robbers to attack is where CCW are not allowed. Someday they will learn this.

That's about like trying to rob a bank from the drive-thru.
