You never know...

Things ain't looking too good...

Seems like all the right ingredients for things to get real bad all across the country...

LOTS of unhappy people in this country, and it doesn't appear they will be happy any time soon.

New Orleans getting more out of control by the day, and spreading.
Already crazy oil prices, getting much worse due to the Gulf situation. I just put $126 worth of gas in two vehicles.
Looks like oil supply is being affected now and is hitting the East coast.
People on a tight budget will really start to feel the pinch when they can't pay bills because they spent it on gas just to drive to work...
Trucking industry is 'gonna feel it. Some will be out of business... Store shelves won't be restocked...
Housing prices are sky high. I've seen some properties jump over 100k in a year or two.
Soon it will be Winter and people won't be able to heat their homes due to high oil prices.

I believe GWB will get credit for doing more damage to the Republican party than any DU'er could possibly have ever hoped for...
Whether he is responsible or not, he and the Republican party will take the blame just like his Dad did.

Just a coupla things that came to mind... I'm a little sleepy right now, so I may need to re-adjust my tinfoil.

Just appears this country is more fragile than I thought.

i feel the same way but i could see it starting a race war .
i know theirs alot of people up in arms over all the thing going on in N.O.

there trying to help and we have people shooting at them.
some one will fire back and that could start it all.

No, but NO could be the spark that starts some riots in other major cities. With all of the refugees coming to Houston, Dallas and San Antonio we're going to have an influx of people who are going to be getting more frustrated and haven't got shit to lose. We've also got gas prices going through the roof, and everyone in the country is seeing first hand that you can't depend on the government for JACK! We may see some nasty shit, but not a revolution.

Oh be quiet... You know what I meant.
(Edited accordingly... It's late here on the East coast)

Definition of "Flashpoint": point at which something is ready to blow up

We had better be careful. I have noticed houstonians become alot more aggitated this week. I am sure its due to the increase of fuel among other things. Tensions are running very high here in houston, so for all those other cities about to get refugees....get ready. Also while everyone's attention is on LA watch out for terror attacks somewhere else.....LA is a huge deversion...

I think the country is more likely to undergo some sort of socialist revolution than anything else.

With a depression like during the 30s, I guarantee we would have one.
Link Posted: 9/1/2005 9:10:04 PM EDT
One VERY strange thing I've noticed here in PA...

People are TALKING to each other at the pumps...
Something unheard of in these PA Dutch unsociable parts of the state. Everyone is being vocal about the situation...
My brother said he was getting gas yesterday in NC and heard a guy yelling at the pumps... The guy was screaming and hollering about Bush not doing anything during this nationwide crisis...

THIS is the thing most likely to happen.

It's one thing for other areas of the nation to take in refugees that are willing to adapt and thankful for whatever assistance they can get. What we're seeing is many violent, uncooperative, government teat sucking dregs of society being "relocated" into communities that are totally unprepared for what is to come. Combine this with the stresses caused by rising gas prices/shortages and things could reach a flash point sooner than later.

no

lawlessness is prevailent, but the people there looting or causing hell are just doing it for selfish casues

they have no plan, ideas, or motivation to overthow anyone

as to the gas situation--its supply and demand as well as the oil industry capitalizing on everyone

It is really interesting how organized the authorities really are. Makes me feel real safe. Major catastophe hits and they don't have a plan. That is except to get theirselves the hell out of Dodge. Know I know why I am heavily armed. I count on few and count on the .gov a whole lot less.

I'm suprised no ones brought up the fact, that the all these refugees are not going to be able to be housed in the Houston AstroDome or many of the other places that they are being temporarily warehoused for the long term.

Trust me their not going to be allowed to stay on cruise ships very long.

What we'er likely to see is massive Palistinian style refugee camps in Louisiana ,Alabama and the Texas Gulf Coast.. complete with massive tent cities, trailor park hospitals and news crews covering the supposed suffering of the oppressed.

Katrina will have given us our very own camps full of " Gaza style Rock Throwers".

The Liberals will feed them and make sure that they don't get out of their tent cities, at least until after the next Presidential election cycle.....so they will have lots of nice news clips, of suffering refugee's to show during Hillary's campaign.

I don't think the military will be allowed to just go in and just annihilate the looters (though that would be correct I think). It's just too non-pc. Can you imagine the outcry that would occur if GWB ordered troops to outright and without a trial, kill the looters in the act? While many would support it, because of the media and liberals, it would evolve into a "race" issue and fuel anger towards authority regardless how justified it might be.

I do agree that if enough people keep their heads and give enough TIME for programs, relief efforts, etc, to work, then things will settle down and some amount of normalcy will return by Christmas. This is assuming of course of no further disasters or attacks occur.
Link Posted: 9/1/2005 10:16:09 PM EDT
I can see this harming "race relations" (whatever the hell that is) in that it sounds like the roving gangs are raced based and that sort of thing tends to expand rapidly and dwell on minds.

No it's not all the authorities that are unorganized, it's just the idiots in Louisiana that can't figure it out. They have sat down a few times in the past and said, this is what a big hurricane might do if it hits. Passed a resolution that it wouldn't happen and went back to the Big Easy way of doing things.

You notice that the DMATS are already in place, various breweries are forwarding canned water, etc. Most places have pretty good disaster plans in place and exercise them and FEMA has some pretty good response plans and capabilities. Ask the guys how things went in FL last year. NO has known for years that they are in a bowl surrounded by water and still kept their outdated and outlclassed pumping system. And didn't ensure that it had its own power generation system sitting right there on platforms above sea level.

And it's hard to be a flashpoint 15 feet deep in water.

Why??? Do you want a "Revolution?"
Link Posted: 9/1/2005 11:02:28 PM EDT
Maybe these refugees should be bussed to the mexican border and given temporary jobs watching for illegals trying to cross. They could be housed in temp shelters and earn some money to start over.

Unfortunately, the majority opinion appears to be dissatisfaction with the government's response and the prevailing attitude is that the government is responsible for everyone's welfare. Given these sentiments, the only "revolution" we're likely to see is a socialist revolution putting into power a nanny/stalinist state that will "take care" of us all. NO should teach people that they need to take care of themselves but everyone seems to be drawing the opposite conclusion.

Gearge SR. hung himself out...he was a fool who let his ambitions get ahead of his abilities. similar to the 60's. basically they riot and burn out their own neighborhoods.

gas prices and issues are close to the 70s/80s oil problems and we got by then without violence.

in truth we are a LONG LONG way for any general armed uprising. riots perhaps not.. but all it takes is a drunk driver (rodney king) getting a little street justice to ignite violence in some parts of the country so this current situation could very easily do the same thing... burn baby burn...

Revolution? No.

The dems will return to power in the 2006 elections in full force though.

Even though we are watching a failure of government (NO and LA) before our very eyes, the wussified population of the USA(Socialist) will put the same party in power that is currently screwing up LA.

Promises of free goodies and a life where government prevents everything bad from happening - even Nature - will prove too seductive to the TV-watching, fatass, idiot constituency of the USA(Socialist).

I'm fairly certain this will be the case. A co-worker and I got into a heated discussion this morning regarding this very issue. He SWEARS the Repubs will maintain control next election. I'm convinced otherwise. I think the Repub party will be damaged goods for years to come, and will pay dearly in the elections.

Buy guns now while you still can...
