Corey Taylor is no RJD (no shit statement of the day?), but this is a pretty decent cover. I guess it's part of a tribute album to RJD that was just released.

Yeah, I picked up that album last week.  Some good covers on there.  I generally skip over Killswitch Engage's version of Holy Diver and the stuff Metallica did for it, but the rest is listenable to outstanding.

For some reason, I really dig the Scorpions doing "Temple of the King", although I wasn't familiar with the song prior to hearing this album.

Thats not bad at all.

I like it, doesn't seem to imitate RJD, but has its own sound.

... Ronnie James Dio, awful hard to beat his version

Here we go:

Corey Taylor has some amazing range for a guy that spends half his time screaming. He can do total screamo, this, or something slow like Zzyzx Road. What a great voice to cover this song.
Link Posted: 4/22/2014 4:28:24 PM EDT
Hey, found the whole album, even.

I may get crucified for this, but I think Corey Taylor is severely under appreciated.  I think he's a bit of a musical genius.

Nah, I hadn't paid much attention to him before, but I'm impressed enough with his tribute to one of the true greats to investigate further, at this point.

It's a posthumous tribute album. "Beating" Dio's work was never the intention.

His stuff with Stone Sour is great and the collaboration with Dave Grohl on the Sound City soundtrack was awesome.

Anthrax doing Neon Knights was pretty damn good.

House of gold and bones (part 1 anyway, don't have 2 yet) by Stone Sour is a pretty damn good album...  I never was a major Slipknot fan, but Taylor is a pretty damn good vocalist.

second the Anthrax as well, I also liked Tenacious D and the Killswitch Engage cover which they did awhile back.

Ineed. Anyone who thinks that the song from the OP is anywhere near the Dio version cannot be taken seriously.

Anthrax did a decent job on Neon Nights, I'm going to listen to the whole album to hear what all is good and what's not.

Also, Dio will show you what a cover is all about.

You understand how art works right? It is almost completely subjective, it's all personal opinion, and as much as we like to tell people they are wrong there is no such thing.

Almost unfair with that lineup:
Rob Halford, Vinny Appice, Doug Aldrich, Jeff Pilson, Scott Warren...
Doug is one of my all time fav guitar players

That was really damn good.  I am surprised because I usually hate covers.

I have always loved covers. You get to hear a awesome song sang in different styles

Killswitch engages verson of holy diver is pretty cool, Video is funny also.

It's pretty easy to cover the song when you down-tune the guitars to B or C.

Try doing it in concert pitch - if you can.

Meh, regardless of Cold Engineer's statement, it's a cover, not an exact replication.

Best comment under the Tenacious D tribute cover of The Last in Line

This isn't the best song in the world

This is just a tribute to the best song!

The vocals have no emotion and it's missing the keyboard hook.
Not a bad tribute song though.
