Fire him. While they are at it, smash his turntable and tape his mouth shut.
"Rapping firefighter" |
I'm a firefighter. He's an embarrassment. I think firing is too nice....how 'bout a good old fashioned ass whoopin'?
Just my intemperate thoughts on the subject. roy d |
He could put decades of hurt on the relationship between the departments.
Either his superiors need to lean on him, or his crew needs to whoop him, until he realizes his mistake. |
At least he knows he has superiors...including my dog, my neighbors cat, and the rat that was in my trash last night....all superior to this ass-clown. roy d...again |
Your image of the hero fireman is a bit skewed. No doubt that fire departments have their smoke eaters that are hard working and aggressive. The run into a burning building type. They are not the majority. Most would rather stay outside and wait for the smoke eaters to knock down the fire and then loot the scene while they clean up and board up. The real firemen know who the lazy bums are. Some will even publicly admit that they have them in their own house. |
What he really means are Jackson and Sharpton...those are his superiors.... |
Yup, everytime I drive by one and see them washing their personal cars and BBQing in the driveway on city time. Did I mention the plasma TV and popcorn machine in the "ready room"? Let's not forget the 9 we just fired for running an internet porn ring on city computers, or the two stashing stolen motorcycles out back of the firestation. |

The Fraternal Order of Police on Monday demanded the dismissal of Rodney Jean-Jacques, who raps under the name Cal Akbar.
This guy sounded like a moron, then I read this little line. Thats all I needed to know. |

There are photos firefighters washing their cars in the station house floating around town here. Of course after our police chief was arrested by the feds, the Fire Department looks good by comparison. Not to mention the parking meter bandit chief in another upstate NY town. edit- nevermind helps if you actually read the first post |

As bad as I hate rappers in general, and gangsta rappers in particular, I'm not convinced this scumbag should be fired if he wrote and produced this "song" on his own time.

First, I don't know what "image" you refer to. I have made no reference to us being heroes of any sort. Second, you make many false assumptions based on your narrow experience. I could put forth the theory that your low opinion of firefighters is based on the fact you are from Ohio. Ohio, being a union friendly state, usually attracts less than competent individuals to government jobs with laughingly low acceptance standards and then can not and will not terminate them due to tight union rules and control. But I could be wrong. I work in a "right-to-work" state. My employer can terminate me at will. I am free to leave at will. I am not required to sign up for the union nor am I required to pay dues. I also am not allowed to wash my private car on duty, drink on duty, sleep during business hours, lie, cheat, steal, defame the department, or the uniform I wear. I would be terminated if I did any of those things. Period. Hate all you want. But hate your little neck of the woods that allows whatever shit they get away with. We have some guys that are less than stellar, too...but they never last too long...they always find a way to get fired. I love my crew and our department. I imagine like most people that talk shit about us...you do it in the safety of your office...but when some dumb chick talking on her cell phone rams into your car and puts you into a tree...guess who's gonna cut you out? We work well with the police around here. They are great guys and gals. They are always there when we need them, and we are always there for them when we're needed. We ask for help...they are "johnny-on-the-spot". When they get hurt or injured or have medical emergencies, we treat them like royalty...not because they are better than anyone...because they look out for us too. We're a brotherhood. And like brothers, we give each other hell. But we don't tolerate bashing. this firefighter that made the rap song...he'd have a blanket party...but then again...he'd be fired too. If your firefighters and police departments don't work well together...why not? roy d...for the record, we don't have a big screen t.v |

They should have just ignored him and chalked it up to the guy being an idiot. When stupid people talk, I tend to just tune them out. It's easiest that way.

I am not sure about Philadelphia's contract, but this guy COULD be fired under our contract for actions bringing disgrace upon the departement. On our department, I am fairly certain that nothing would happen to him however.
I work as a professional firefighter on an ISO Class 1 department. I wash my car at the station while on duty (and so does every other guy on the job). I sleep at the station on duty (and so does every other guy on the job) . We do have a big screen TV at the station (as well as having one in every station we have) which we watch on duty (not plasma, I will have to bring that up next shift). In fact, there is a TV in almost every room in the station complete with cable/DVD player/and or a VCR. We have Lazy Boy chairs as well as every cable channel offered by our cable company. We also work out while on duty and go to the grocery store/cook/and eat while on duty. We also have real nice BBQs at every station, built in. So What ? Now the rest of the story: We work 24 hour shifts and can work up to 72 hours at a time. Of course we have beds and sleep while on duty. We also don't spent the whole shift poised in the seats of the engine waiting on the alarm to go off. We have a work day from 0800 to 1500 and then we are free to watch TV, play cards, work out, etc. After 1900 we are free to go to bed or lay down if we want to. Since we are there for 24 hours, we shop and cook two meals a day. The TVs, cable, newspaper subscription, Lazy Boy chairs, VCRs, DVD players, weights/benches/Smith Machines/Treadmills/Bikes ................ are all payed for by US through something called the firefighter benefit: a deduction from our paychecks that goes to the association that buys that kind of stuff including the BBQs. The association doesn't provide big-screen TVs, they have a specific amount of money they will give you for a new TV then the guys bid into that station come up with the rest of the money to upgrade to a big screen. The only taxpayers that are paying for this stuff are the taxpayers that work as firefighters. I guess I don't get the issue with washing cars so I can't address that. Don't hate the player, hate the game. Show me a guy that hates firefighters and I will show you a guy that tried to get on and couldn't handle the testing process. Or a guy that is pissed because chicks dig firefighters. |
You're just jealous. BTW, he should be fired. But he won't be due to diversity concerns. Just my prediction. |
Wow, the cops doing a bashing thread. Color me surprised. |
I don't know quite where to start... |
Probably by examining your signature line. I came from Atlanta F.D. that had a strong union, and an effective union. But they fought for work safety, promotional fairness and equity issues...good group of guys at the time. Where I work now, we have 26 stations and 800 employees. The union is non-existent. BUT.....the Fire Chief walks into the station and shakes hands and calls everyone by name. He's welcome any time. He doesn't say a word IF the T.V is on during the day (rarely is, though) and will show up on the scene pat everyone on the back when the job is done well. Get caught disgracing the department or the uniform and he'll fire you. If you don't like the department, there is a street in front of every station. roy d...not bashing unions...just explaining why some guys get away with bull squeeze. |
So true... |
So, you assume that your firefighter colleagues in Ohio are somehow inferior to you because they have the fortitude to band together against political influence, and have the courage to negotiate livable salarys? How is your department so much superior, in your "right to work state?" If you're comfortable with having to kiss ass to maintain your employment, that's your decision, but don't be so critical of those who insist on parity in the workplace. |
I won't deny that some work harder than others, but those are fighting words. |
They are there for 24 - 48 hrs at a time. What do you expect them to do, not eat? Do you have a TV in your den? Why shouldn't firefighters have on in theirs? |
We must be lucky, our hosedraggers aren't gangsta asshats.
We keep em' in line by schooling them in the annual LE/FF football game every year. |
Oh ya! Well I hate people that do what ever you do for a living. Clown! |
Hold on there partner...I am from Ohio and am a FF/EMT. I meet and exceed all NFPA, NREMT, OSHA, and DOT standards for Firefighters, Emergency Medical Technicians, and Hazardous Material Specialists. Don't brush all of us in Ohio as do nothing IAFF members. |
Hey Roy, That signature line there, that's sarcasm. |
Wow it must suck to live in a real shithole like you. |
Paratrooper, don't sweat what this guy says; after living in Texas for nearly 22 years, I can tell you how so many southern good ol' boys think-that all "yankees" are corrupt, weak and worthless. They'll also insist that the Civil War wasn't about slavery......... |

I don't know about you but around here firefighters spend if the majority of their time out of the station, not necessarily on calls, but doing inspections and fulfilling training requirements. Unlike the cops around here firefighters usually have a 24 hour shift, and often get little to no sleep so quit fuckin whining about the few luxuries they DO have back at the station for when they are there in the evening. |
Sounds like a pretty good gig to me. |
Hey, no hard feelings. Look at the last red sentence..."but I could be wrong" The poster stated, "I hate firefighters"....a pretty ignorant statement in itself, I just offered a reason why he may not like his local fireman (not Ohio) Folks cite evidence of car washing, t.v. watching, bbq's etc....no one is awake to see us at 3am cutting dead kids out of cars or when it's 22 degrees outside and we're covered in ice...My apologies brother roy d....not hating on unions, but they make it hard to get rid of chumps |

I ask again, what is wrong with washing your car, watching TV, or BBQing food ?
It's OK to eat at work if you buy it from a restraunt or cook it on an electric range but if you BBQ it outside, NOW you have crossed the line. In between calls, it is OK to sit quietly and stare at the floor, but if you have a TV NOW you are stealing the taxpayers money. Maybe there should be size/quality limits put in place to keep these worthless firefighters in their place: black and white is OK. Color TV must be limited to 27" screen size. Conventional tube only, no plasma or LCD. Nothing more than a 5" speaker is permitted either, surround sound is cause for us to unleash the APCs into your station/compound. If you have an hour to spare while you are waiting on a call and you wash your car you are suddenly a worthless prick ? Please explain that to me. I guess we could run police calls inbetween fire and EMS calls and do away with the police department; How about if you sit in the engine and study your IFSTA Essentials book inbetween calls for the whole shift. That oughta make the haters respect you. |
Is that what you guys tell yourselves as you sit a block away on a hot call, while the boys in blue rush to the scene? God made police officers so fire fighters would have heroes. Drag that hose. |
Notice how cops spend all their time worrying about what we get away with.
When was the last time a firefighter wasted his time worrying about what cops get away with ? But, but, you guys have TV. You guys eat at the station. Wah Wah. I have NEVER heard of a firefighter quitting to beocme a cop. BUT, we have a half dozen guys that quit the PD to become firefighters. Why ? Because firefighters and cops have one thing in common. They both want to be firefighters. A cop once told me: "When you guys drive by, all the kids wave and want you to blow your air horn. When we drive by, they flip us off.". That sums it up for me. "Is that what you guys tell yourselves as you sit a block away on a hot call, while the boys in blue rush to the scene? God made police officers so fire fighters would have heroes." Yeah, OK hero. Get up there and make sure everything is safe for us. We want to hurry up and run this call so we can get back to the station, chow's on. |
Nothing is wrong with it...just public perception....these jackasses see us in our down time and think we're robbing the taxpayers. A guy walked into our station on Sunday while we're sitting around watching the game (never have seen a whole game at work)...says, "I wish I could get paid to have a job like this". I told him to come back at three in the morning and relieve me...I'll go home to my nice warm bed with my wife and you can get jolted out of bed by an alarm, be expected to be at a home you've never been to before without getting lost within 4 minutes, find fire shooting through the roof and some lady screaming that her baby is inside. Go in put the fire out, find her "baby" is her cat and then spend the next four hours freezing your ass off shoveling crap out of her house and leave it cleaner than you found it.....Then you can go home to your wife and kids at shift change, give a kiss "good night" at 8:00 in the morning and sleep til noon on your "day off" because your so exhausted. Whatever. roy d....by the way, I have never "looted" someones home, never even seen a fireman steal from someone. |
"I wish I could get paid to have a job like this".
Well then what has he done about it ? If he really wished that, then he can certainly be down there with the other guys putting in an application. I am sure he is enrolled full time at the community college getting his fire science degree. And of course he has a paramedic certification on his resume. And I am sure he is spending an hour or two at the gym to get ready for that physical agility test. NOT Tell him to wish in one hand and shit in the other and see which fills up first. We hire a lot of people. When they give the written test, thousands of potential car washers/TV watchers/cops that want to be firemen, start the process. All but a couple hundred have done absolutely nothing to prepare themselves for the process. By the time the final list is compiled, out of those couple thousand guys that started, there are a couple hundred names on the list that advance to the interview process. Out of those maybe 20-30 start the academy. 1/2-3/4 of them never finish the academy. It isn't unheard of for one guy to not finish his probation period after the academy. But, if you want to sit around watching TV and eating BBQ thinking about your nice clean car, we are always taking applications. |
Then why is your moniker a 400 code for officer needs assistance? The reality is pal, not all people are cut out to be police officers, anyone can be a firefighter. Drag your hose son. |
I say this as a LEO-remember 9/11? I think more FF's died that day than cops. Police/Fire each have their perks, I personally wouldn't wanna spend 24 straight hours with my co-workers. If I go to a shooting scene, I don't have to pick up some dying crackhead that just lost a turf war, the fireman/paramedics do that while I work on the report. I also seem to have read somewhere that while being a fireman is more physically dangerous, being a cop is more mentally threatening. So ya roll the dice, pick your poison and go on.......... |

I couldn't..... |
