Officials say someone reached over the door and tried to grab his jacket, with the gun inside. Police say the gun fired twice, with both bullets hitting the ceiling.

Nothing in those two sentences makes sense. Nothing. That is absolutely unbelievable.

I suspect he was playing with his firearm while on the toilet and it shot into the ceiling.

Someone try to reach for the jacket and pull the trigger maybe?

Are you sure it wasn't a Subway sandwitch that created the disturbance?

Authorities say a police officer's personal handgun discharged twice when someone tried to steal his jacket while he was in the bathroom at an upstate New York shopping mall.

Another of those pesky guns that fire all by themselves.

In the crapper no less. :-)

I've seen ND's result in two quick shots, especially if you have the weapon at an odd angle.

Perhaps. That Glock reset is a beauty.

True story.....

I once knew a detective that sat on the commode at the police station and hung his 1911 on the coat hook while he did his business.

He didn't notice that the safety was off and grabbed the pistol to lift it off the coat hook and the trigger hit the coat hanger and fired. He jumped at the shot and hit the trigger again on the coat hanger and it fired again.

He didn't live that one down for a long time.

I knew a Dayton SGT who was trying to get a shotgun out of his car and blew a big hole in the roof

Didn't a cops gun go off at the Colonie Mall last year or early this year as well?

Maybe he got scared by the first shoot and it jumped in his hand, he then tightened his grip and shoot again by accident.

ETA: Beat by a few

And how did he manage to bypass the grip safety?

Knew one of those too.

His nickname forever afterward......Boom-boom.

Did he ever hear anyone call him that, or anything else. (I would an ears bleeding emoticon here if there was one.)

I am thinking the cop in the OP's article just recreated this incident.

Yea..I'm going with this one.

Either one perhaps.
Because if it was in a proper holster ... how did the trigger manage to get pulled?

Link Posted: 12/28/2012 9:06:24 AM EDT
he had an ND and then fired the second one on purpose to match this cover story
Link Posted: 12/28/2012 9:06:57 AM EDT
Every time I hear about someone having a ND while on the toilet, I wonder how fast they pinched it off and if they bothered to wipe.

Is that wierd?

Link Posted: 12/28/2012 10:10:21 AM EDT
We had a cop pull a Plaxico in South ridge Mall awhile back. The dumb ass was off duty carry concealed with no holster (glock if I remember correct).
Gun goes off then had the nerve to tell everyone "I'm a police officer stay calm" lol

And in true cop form he was fired then hired back. If I did that they would take away my CCW and charge me with god knows how many crimes.

They will be impressed at how he was able to dump twice in less than a second.
