I once saw a row of 6 large dumpsters ( the type that are winched onto a semi tracter) full of M1 clips at a USMC scrap yard. That was in Japan in 1984. I can't imagine where they came from.

All the cool stuff is on the East Coast.  All the bases out here have fancy high tech equipment.

Although the Marine base down in Yuma has some sweet self contained firefighting stuff.

Who buys this brass, you ask???

One of those "How things are Made" TV shows (Discovery, I think) did a segment on a company that buys these bulk lots of Military Brass.

What did this company make???   Answer: Key Blanks. Yep, just about all those keys you've got on that "janitor's special" key chain of yours was made from melted down military brass.

That company supplied all those blanks that you see hanging at your local key cutter station.

Showed the owner running his hands thru a 3ft tall bin of .223, 9mm and a few artillary pieces. They mix in some tin ingots to make it softer.

So...the next time some anti-gun wacko starts bitchin' & moanin' , just ask him/her to pull out their keyring...and tell them this story. Watch'em turn green when you tell'em they've been carrying around a bunch of old ammo the whole time.

Was it classified H7 like everything else is? I'd buy a truck if it ran.

This is the site where used M16s and M14s should be surplused to the civilian market.....

But while living in a fantasy land, my two more realistic dreams right now are finding a 5 ton 6x6 in California that I could buy and easily go pick up.     The other is finding a 55 gallon drum of once fired 50BMG that I could pick up and bring home to have a near life time supply of 50BMG cases for reloading.
