Usually deep fry or smoke our turkey. Deep frying is our favorite but there's a lot of cleanup afterwards. Smoking it is our 2nd favorite method but takes longer and is more work.

I got roped in to this from an Amazon Black Friday deal, Lowes price matched it for $99.

Char Broil Oil-Less propane turkey fryer. Watched a few YouTubes on it, everyone seems to like it so I'm gonna give it a go.

We've been using that for the last few years. It makes an amazing turkey and quicker than in the oven. You do have to fiddle with the wire cap, if you leave it on from the beginning the breast tends to get done before the rest of the bird. We usually throw some soaked wood chips in about halfway through for some smoke flavor. Good stuff.

I’ve been using one for years now. It’s the only way to go in my opinion.

Do you think there will be any issues using it in cold weather? It's gonna be in the 30's here on Thursday...

Is there a pan or something in the bottom to catch the gravy, turkey without gravy would be a bit of a let down.

What would you cook in that besides turkeys?  I think I might need one.

Seen youtube videos of people doing prime rib and spare ribs in them aside from turkey

I have had one for years.  Decided to do a turkey this year and out she comes.

Oil frying is messy, but great bird.  Oven cooking is clean, but dry bird.  This gives best of both worlds.

Inject and dry rub the bird and enjoy.

ETA - DO NOT bypass the "seasoning" of the device.  Light oiling and then turn on till smoke is gone before using.

How long does it take to cook a bird?

Have been using one of these for @ 8 years now.  When deep frying I think the rule of thumb was 3.5 mins/lb for turkey, with this thing I use 7 mins/lb and have had great luck.  Drippings pan makes gravy making easy as well

Cleanup is a snap, by the time the bird is done resting, cleanup is already done.

I tried a prime rib once and wasn't too pleased, and as much as I like turkey out of this thing my favorite is a big old pork butt.  Damn good eating.

Spatchcock is what I do.

It's fast and you still get "bird stuffing." There's enough rendered fat to drain off and make gravy.

The only downside is that our oven is only big enough for about a 14lb bird that's prepared like this.

No oil. I've done turkey on mine for the last ten years. Excellent

I got one of these a few years ago as a gift, didn't think much of it.

I brined, injected, spatchcocked and BGE smoked Turkey #1, and it turned out great.

I seasoned and cooked Turkey #2 on the Char Broil Big Easy (so, much, much less effort).

Everyone thought both were good, but #2 was better. YMMV

From my experience with cast iron pans, canola oil or grapeseed oil works

The only way Ive cooked a bird in the last 5 years. Comes out as good as a deep fried turkey without all the mess.  I do brine mine in an apple juice and brown sugar brine the day before, let it dry un covered in the fridge so the skin will not be chewy, coat to with Avocado oil, season the hell out of it with Tony's.
And the top only goes on for the last few minutes when you need it extra crispy.  Don't put the top on until the bird is at 155 in the breast.
I also use it for chicken wings, and beer can chickens. Tried ribs, they didn't do as well.

Another thing I didn’t know Existed but I needed.

But maybe a stupid question.  It looks like this makes it not possible to do a bird with stuffing?    Gotta have stuffing and the best is inside the bird as it gets all the juices and fat

I have one, been using it for years. Family loves it. Plus it frees up my oven. This reminds me, I need to go get more propane.

I’ve also done a rib roast in it. Came our very excellent as well.

turkeys have come out great in this thing.

perhaps I will do this, this year.

So decided to forego the brine this year since I couldn't find a fresh turkey anywhere. Never had good luck with brining a frozen bird as they are typically pre-brined and don't take on much with brining again.

I decided that I am going to inject with Tony's Injectable Creole Butter and rub with Meat Church's Holy Voodoo with peanut oil as a binder, then into the Big Easy.

Sounds like you just don't know how to cook one. Turkey is one of the most unforgiving proteins to cook, but when done right is fucking delicious.

Picked one of these up a few days ago for $99. Usually I deep fry the turkeys but peanut oil was $50 for 3 gallons so i figured I'd try this out. Did a dry brine on a 14lb turkey. Probably just gonna season it with garlic/salt/pepper and put a coating of avacado oil on it. Turkey is going on in a few hours. I'll post results.

Since I live in San Diego I'm the wrong guy to ask, lol. It might add a little time if it is cold outside but since the only opening is in the top and the sides are double wall I don't thing it will have a big impact.

Any will do, but higher smoke point will make less odor.
