So they're working the bugs out of a hastily designed and implemented system. Did anyone expect this new system to work perfectly at first?

Well, if you just adjust your worldview to see all American Citizens as "potential terrorists," you'll see the reasoning behind this system. It's not there to make us safer; it's there to place us all under rigid control and make us helpless. NOTHING done since September 11th in the name of fighting terrorism would have prevented the events of that day. But they sure as hell make daily life harder and help destroy what's left of our economy.
