Just so this doesn't get called an urban legend, here's the link:

Q: The illegal immigration issue is a hot-button topic right now; how is that being handled in the Latino entertainment community?

A: I disagree with my Hispanic brothers. You cannot serve two gods. You cannot have dual citizenship of Mexico and the same for America. I am American; God forbid that we go to war with Mexico, because I know which way I'll point the gun. "If Mexico is so good," I tell them, "why leave?"

My parents left because they were starving. I am grateful to this country, and I will lay my life down for it. I feel that if you're in America illegally, you've got two options: You fix your status and get legit, or leave. We should be more in favor of deportation than the non-Latinos, but my brothers don't feel like that.

What part of illegal don't they understand? Think about it: Both political parties are talking about reform, but that's just what it is – talk. We're a nation of immigrants, but there's a right way and a wrong way to do things.

The polls I've seen indicate a majority of Hispanics favor enforcement of immigration laws, even though the media likes to portray it as mass opposition to those laws.

It's like the way they try to paint the minutemen as a bunch of racists, when one of the heads of the group is Hispanic himself.

Eh it's just like any race.

Some get it...some don't.

Also I'm sure the Hispanics in this country do not appreciate the bad rap that the illegals are giving them.  Hell I know I wouldn't.

He's an American in my eyes, and not a Hispanic American as some would like to be called (such as blacks who wish to be called African Americans....well I guess that makes me Irish American even though that goes back to 4 generations. )

My best friend in high school was a Mexican. His parents were LEGAL immigrants from Mexico who came here for a better life.

He and his family despise illegal immigrants for cheating the system. they firmly believed that people should go through the system and become citizens like they did to get access to what America has to offer. I think most legal immigrants feel this way, despite what is reported in the media.

This patriotism and anti-illegal sentiment is shared by a huge number of Hispanic Americans.

That is why it's important that we are sure to avoid lumping these patriotic American citizens AND illegal aliens into the catchall "Mexican" tag.

It's ignorant and unfair in the extreme to do so.
